need some mechanical advice

Hey, I am currently looking at a 94 Mr2 and it has one major problem. The previous owner blew the engine. So, I am asking if i should purchase the car. It is in quite good condition... aside from not having an engine or transmission, for 1450. I was wondering what would be an ideal relatively easy to install engine. Or if i should just keep looking. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

So your buying a roller? Here is the tuff stuff a) Do you have the experience to install an engine and transmission? b) Do you have help available to help you with the tuff stuff that takes more than 1? c) Do you have the location and equipment to do the repairs? d) Do you know the extra investment of getting the parts together? e) Do you have the time and money to chase down all the little parts missing to get the car running? f) Can you handle the possibility of getting a bad transmission and engine and having to settle with the suppliers and get another? g) Are you UP on the emissions requirements in your region? This may determine the engine. h) Do you have the $$$$ to pay someone else to do these things for you? I'm sure there are lots more, lots to think about...........John

since you're in CA, i'd pass on it. if you were, i dunno, say, in the midwest (like me ) then i'd say go for it, swap in a genII 3SGTE and call it a day.

but yeah, my vote goes to "pass", unfortunately.

A '94 MR2 for that price??? I would snatch it up in a heartbeat. None of the problems listed above are even a big deal. There is a place right now in SoCal that is offering a 2nd gen, swapped, with labor.... for $3,000 out the door. If the car doesn't even have an engine in it they might charge less. $4,500 for a '94 Turbo.... thats 1/2 of what you will ever see that car for. Do it.
