Prop Rod -WTF? (MKI NA)

I've got a MKI NA car and among a lot of little things it's missing the prop rod for the engine cover. So scrounging around the scrap yard today yielded a radio (3rd that is faulty or otherwise unsuitable ) a headlight surround, a quarter panel and this mysterious prop rod. It is all black and has a flat "foot" at the business end. This foot seems to have some minor magnetic properties. It is configured to mount to the right side of the compartment it holds open, as on a Supercharged car. It is too long to fit in my car in the hole I think the SC prop rod should go in.

So what the hell is it? Is it from a MKII? A MKIII? Some other MR car like a Porsche or a Fiat? Or something completley form left field? It was found loose in the engine bay of a MKI with no engine.
