Rim Question

Hey All,

Are rims a pretty standard thing that you can swap between cars as long as they're both 5 bolt config instead of 4? Unfortunately when I got out of the navy and returned home my Probe GT was so rusted out its not worth repairing anymore. The rims/wheels are still in great shape so I wanted to swap them for the stock rims on my wife's 92 Celica ST before we send her to the junkyard.

I know this isn't an MR2 specific question, but in the past this forum is where I've come for info on my MR2 and everyone here seems knowledgable and considerate. This could also technically apply to MR2s if someone wanted to do a rim swap to/from a car.

Thanks in advance,
GK

Unfortunately it's not quite that straight forward.

Even though it's a 5 bolt patter it can still be a 5x110 or 5x114.5. The 110 and 114.5 is the distance between the bolts in millimeters IIRC.

Not only that but the offset of the wheel can come into play. If the wheel is too deep it may hit the strut or if it's too shallow it may stick out too far.

If you can tell us what the bolt pattern and offset are for your probe wheels we should be able to tell you if they'll fit.

According to what I found online the Probe GT OEM rims are:

OE SIZE: 16 X 7, BOLT: 5x114.3, Lug Nut: 12mmX1.5, CB = 67.1
ET: High Offset ( typically +45, 40, 35)

I wish it was that easy and simple. heels shoul db elike that. unfortunately there's the offset issue of the wheels and whether or not you have big brakes. Not all wheels fit the same even if the other car is 5 bolts. 5 bolts have different bolt patterns. So not all wheels even if its 5 bolt would fit on any car. hope that helps.
