Speedo

I have a 91 mr2 I just bought but it has the 93 motor inside. My speedo doesn't work and some of my idoit lights are on. But my rpm gas and temp and boost gauge work. Would just going out and buying a 93 cluster be the best thing to do? If so where should I start looking for one? If that isn't what I should look at what should I do? I was told the 91 is mechanial and the 93 is electric

well yes the 91-92 speedometers were cable driven and the 93+ are electric. your problem is probably in one of 3 areas, are you using the 91 tranny? if you are using the tranny off the 93 the speedometer sending unit, which is in the tranny is, is electric and wont work. swap over the one from the 91. The problems with the mechanical sending are that the cable can fray or break or a gear may strip look at this site http://www.stephenmason.com/cars/mr2speedo.html for more info.
Good Luck
