Gen1 SC AW11 transmission question

....So the automatic transmission option on the 4AGZE engine was the A245E, I know this. The MR2 in question was mid-engine rear-wheel. I know this. Would this transmission, if mounted in a FWD transverse-engine (the kind where the cylinder line is at right angles to the body length) chassis, work as an FWD transmission with minimum alteration? I've been going over the geometry in my head with a stunning lack of success.

not entirely sure what would be entailed for the auto setup..... i would actually assume it to be easier....

on the manuals... there are the 2 shift linkages.... basically, they are just moved from one side to the other (by drilling a very large hole then adding a seal) then using the appropriate shaft selector.....

for an auto... i guess you would just need to extend the cable and make a mounting bracket....

Gen1

The Mr2 is a transverse mounted engine/tranny setup anyways, so yes it would. The Mr2 is basically the FWD setup as normal moved to the rear. And actually, the A245E is used in other front drive toyotas.

If there is one thing that I know practically nothing about, it's automatic transmissions. True story: my friends and I were fooling around, and I jumped in his automatic civic and drove around the parking lot. The only thing was, I forgot that I was driving an automatic, so I shifted his car into park . . .

Haha, original post typo. The MR2 SC tranny was the A241E, not the A245E. The difference is negligable, save for OBD-1 instead of 2 and the presence of an LSD...

Good point, though, Mikey. I think the 241 may've also been on the 96-97 RAV4.
