Electrical Mess

Hi, I'm new here mainly because this is my first MR2. I just Bought a 91 for $800, 125,000 miles, and the body is perfect. The problem is I cant get it to start. The car is N/A and an auto. Someone who previously owned the car ran a Wire from the EFI fuse the middle of three wires coming off the distributor. The problem is the car will turn over and pump fuel when the wire is connected on both ends, but the car will not spark or fire. When I disconect the wire the car fire's and starts to run for a second but dose not continue to run. Does anyone know why some would short these two wires together?

Thought the distributor module sent the signals to the ECU (if it has one), which triggers the igniter. Guessing the fuel pump is not running after the engine starts. Perhaps jumping the wire started the pump. As you seem to have the wiring diagram, run down the fuel pump system. On many Toyota’s you can jump-start the fuel pump by connecting the FP and B+ terminals in an engine compartment junction box. Do this and see if the engine keeps running after started.

yea the distributor senses rpm which triggers the EFi to send fuel. its a ghetto way to bypass an error. but that doesn't seem to be your issue. the thing is also alot with imports... people like to test for spark by pulling a plug and watching it spark... with imports this tends to fry your module. the only way to test this is... to hook up an ignition scope... but thats shop level equipment so your gonna have to replace that module... get a spark tester... its a spark plug w/ a window so you can watch the spark. also your gonna have to pull that EFI wire. your gonna have to figure out why the EFI isn't sending on its own. Could also have a bad crankshaft position sensor. your gonna have to get a manual to figure out how to test this components. i could tell you how but i'm not sure on volts specs and resistance specs.

hope this helps
