Okay, cant find this anywhere, probably because i have no idea what it is called, so maybe somebody on here can help me out. What is the lever thing inside the driver door jamb? what is it called and what does it do. mine is broke off it looks like, but that doesnt change my ignorance of what this thing does.
Not sure what you mean by this, but inside the driver side door - UK spec - just behind the seat, there's a lever that opens the engine hood cover. Can't relate to other levers, as I haven't noticed anything unusual apart from the door opening mechanisms!
Had to think about this one for a while... U said that it was a bar inside of the door, and that even though it is broken, it is not giving u any false response from the working condition of the car right??? The only thing that I can think of is the door locs mechanism, or the lever that closes the door securely... both use lenghs of bar which go to the spesified area... if it is the bar that goes to the u shaped peice that closes, and keeps the door closed, or even the other bar that goes to the locking mechanism, there are a few peices that hold those bars in place, if they were to break, the bar would still work, however they could rattle around which would give you the thought of them being broken... Yet they would still be functional. So either u replace what originally kept those bars in place, or deal with the clanking noise that you are currently recieving... this is just an estimated guess, and I have not had an Mk1 in a long time.... but thats all that I can think of.... hope it helps
i believe its just a sensor for door ajar or something. i know what you mean. the little triangular piece that rotates? right. dont exactly know. but mine doesnt do anything. my production date is may of 85
thanks for the good info, it prob is just some sort of door ajar sensor. it is above the door latch where i image the sticker was (mines used=no sticker)
You know, instead of trying to describe it, it might just be easier to take a picture. That way, people on this forum may have a better idea of what it is. It may be a nonessential part, but I'm kind of curious myself.
OK ... I know what it is, but I'm so old I forget what it does ... it connects to the seat belt retractor assembly ... I seem to remember that it allows the seat belt to fully withdraw back onto the retractor when the door is opened ... yes, most of them broke when the car was still in warranty ... as I recall it was a component part of the retractor, although replaceable separately ... I guess it's kind of like an appendix ... you don't really need it unless you are trying to build a 100 point car ...
