Post Cost of Competing: Jekyl Hyde Racing 2006 year-in-review

Last year I posted a 2005 Year in review to offer some insight to the expenses and challenges of racing.
2004 results can be seen here.

I decided to share this information again and I hope this is useful and/or appreciated.
Looking at what an entire season takes really puts perspective on things.

This is the first year we put effort forth to win a championship and we decided to go for two of them.
We competed in the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association SCCA championship race and the NEPA SCCA
Solo championship race. I'm very proud to annouce that we won both championships!

Having now seen the amount of time, work and dedication that is required of winning championships,
I don't expect we will go for more than one in a single year again. It was a very busy year and things got rather hectic.

This year, in addition to Hyde, we had Jekyl (and even Jekyl Jr!) running at a few different events.
Besides myself, we also had four other drivers competing in Jekyl.

I suspect we will see more of Jekyl getting into the action in 2007, especially since the car has been
(I think we're just waiting for him to get his driver's suit since set up to go hillclimbing!
At this time, there is a driver (a fellow board member) that is considering going for the Hillclimb CSP championship in Jekyl. We'll have to wait and see if that happens. Otherwise, Jekyl will be my back up SM2 car if Hyde can't make an event.

Results:
2006 NEPA SCCA SM2 Champion & 2006 SCCA Pennsylvania Hillclimb SM2 Champion
16 events (in Hyde), 13 wins and 5 records

1 events in Jekyl Jr. (1st place and FTD)

More in-depth results here.

It is possible that Hyde will hit the 1/4-mile one more time this year to try to go for a 10-second pass ... we'll see. Otherwise, our season is over.

Hopes and dreams for 2006:
Starting in 2007, we are hoping to travel outside of our region to race.
... maybe Hyde will be coming to your area. The biggest obstacle with
traveling to race is the expenses associated with trailering.

... so the goals for '07:

600+ rwhp
10.5 second 1/4-miles (or quicker)
170+ mph in a 1-mile Land Speed Race in North Carolina
6 SCCA PHA hill climbs with new records
1 Snow Shoe Mountain Hillclimb in West Virginia
3 SCCA Solo 2s
2 Survival of the Imports drag events
1 NMCA True Street drag challenge
1 Track Day

This amazing year was only made possible because of Hyde's sponsors.
I have refered to Hyde as the "community car" on occassion and it is so true.
So many people and business on this board have touched this car in some
way. You would be hard pressed to find a business in the MR2 community
that is not involved with Hyde somehow.

Thank you sponsors!!

Thank you 2006 Jekyl Hyde Racing Sponsors!

Hyde's successes are the MR2 communities success.

Omfg!!

Well as it turns out... I never knew that u had more than 1 car... I think I am the newest member, and so far, I have learned most of the information unknown by you. U have to be a true mr2 enthusiast to truely know what u are talking about, and u my friend have exactly that.... u competed in several events, know most of the information, and are willing to share that information with others. U have a website, sell stuff for the mr2, and are the director of this forum I believe..... You sir are the image that a true enthusiast should look up to if he or she would be up to the task... I must congradulate you on all your and your teams efforts, and I would also like to announce my appreciation to all of your sponsors, as I know how hard to get them to accept you as a part of their family.
So once again congradulations on all your victories, sorry it cost u out of pocket, and if I had a trophy for a model mr2 enthusiast... it would be given to you.... nice going man... hope all goes well and as hoped for in the future

thanks, man.

So you know, I am just a regular member of this forum.
I am not a "director" of any sort here.
I am a moderator on www.mr2oc.com though.

I have two 1991 MR2s: Jekyl is a '91 non-turno and Hyde is the turbo monster.
My daily driver is a 1985 MR2 ... yes, I am addicted to these cars.
I've had at least 13 of them over the last 13 years.

Sweet

Nice man... I might sound crazy, but I have even been thinking about a tattoo with the cartoon like image of the Mr2.. and above it it would say Two, and below it would say (crazy)
or something like that, lmao... And no I am not a youngin' I am 26, and a homeowner and such... never had a tattoo in my life, and if I am going to get anything... this would be it.
I have only had 3 mr2's... a 1986 na a 1991 na, and now a 1993 turbo. I like the 86 because of the rocketship type of feeling u get when ur in the cockpit of the car with all of the controls at your beckon without moving hardly a muscle, and I like the new one for the bodystyle, and un-sexist qualities. Plus I have always loved the turbo powered cars... my last car was a 1993 rx-7 with a single t-04-s turbo, front mount intercooler, so on and so on.... 427 at the rw...I would never recomment any 1 getting an rx-7. Although I knew almost everything there is to know about the car, it had so many problems it wasn't funny. I sold the car a year ago for 17,500.00 which I lost out on considerably... but the credit card were maxed out, (cause of the car) and I needed to get outta debt... lesson learned the hard way. And all I could think about was how much I loved the Mr2.Reliable HP, safe, fun to drive, and everyone likes it. you might say that I would rather own an mr2 than a ferrari or a lamborghini...... not that I would turn up either1 for free.. :0)
Never the less I am one of the many true mr2 owners that will never sell their car ever again... no matter what!..... this might start a story logging process, sorry
