Racing question??

Once apon a time... I was passenger in a 1998 toyota supra tt... Only a few mods were to be appreciated, such as exhaust and an intake. After a carshow, we were about to enter a race from a 30 mph roll with a firehawk. Now I know the firehawk is a rare and somewhat fast car.. I noticed that my friend was lightly pressing the brake giving gas, and letting the clutch out slowly... thus spooling up the turbo. When he dumped it, we shot through the seats and into the trunk ( not really but u get the idea). The firehawk owner couldn't believe it. This bieng said, does the same go for the mr-2, and yes I know it's horrible on almost every moving part on the car other than the motor. At 0 mph, and at slow speeds??
I figured this would be a rare, and conversational topic

The turbo builds boost based on load onthe engine.

Asking the engine to hold a given mph while the brakes are being applied will put a serious load on the engine .... which will build boost. Once you let go of the brake, and go WOT, the car will rocket off at high boost.

I don't think it is any worse on your car than racing the engine generaly is.
However, it is terrible for your brakes

It would be harder to do at the track as you would need a third foot to hold the brake in place, but it is possible.

It is a lot easier to set up a 2-step rev limiter which builds boost for you at the line without playing games with the brake. I'm making upwards of 30 psi of boost before I ever let the clutch out

Possible to have a third leg? haha just giving you a hard time.

Yeah i'm curious about that... How would the secondary reve limiter work? is ther a kill switch for it that then allows the higher rev limiter to work?

I guess this is an idea I have never heard of before... MORE INFO PLEASE!

We all have at least one rev limiter from the factory that limits the car at redline.
What a 2-step does is offers a second rev limit that is set lower (mine is at 6300 rpms) so you can go full throttle while sitting still with teh cluthc in.

Once you go WOT, the revs nail the rev limiter and iginition spark and/or fuel gets pulled which starts a load backfiring ... the load on the engine at WOT is enoguh to start building boost.

Once you let the clutch out, the car returns to the regular rev limit.
This is controlled by a switch on the clutch ... it's easy enough to just use the cruise control switch that is already on the clutch.

As far as I know, there are 2 routes to getting a 2-step rev limiter.
I have the Hydra Nemesis EMS (engine management system) which has a programmable 2-step built into it.

The other option is to buy an MSD ignition box and buy an MSD ignition 2-step revlimiter that wires into it.

Here's a close up video of the flames I get from the 2-step:

Here's a video of the 2-step doing it's job to get a 1.49 in the 60 foot (since it is at night, you can see the flashes from the 2-step under the car:

Ok so you have the two or three step limiters... will that run off you stock ignition or do you need to buy an aftermarket MSD igintion so it all works together?

As I indicated above, I am using the 2-step.
I am no longer using the MSD unit though.

In order to use this, you will need the MSD ignition, you will need the individual modules (pills) that set teh RPM points and you will need the MSD Soft Touch Rev control.

... you will also need tires that can hold the power of boost coming off of a launch

If you are not using drag radials and racing at the drag strip, it would be a pointless purchase as you will most likely just roast your tires and not hook up very well.
