Angry smog check

well got my car smogged (1991 toyota mr2 2.2) and failed it. at at test only smogg;

this was the reason why it failed.

N O (PPM)

MAX AVE MEAS

15 mph 807 237 1284

25 mph 746 199 1126

. the smog tech made no sense to me, and what do those readings mean. my neighbor said that it could only be two problems. my timming is off or my egr system is bad. one thing the mechanic did tell me was that my timming was perfect. so im wondering if its my egr or possibly something else. i dont know what to do this is the first time this has happened to me. if any one has any idea what the best solution is or what i can do, id really appreciate it.

thank you.

your egr could be faulty but not likely if it fails at both 15 and 25 test limits.

you can test it if you want to be sure but you need a vacuum pump. apply 10hg of vacuum... and the engine should stumble. you also need to test the negative back pressure transducer. specs for that will be found in any manual. i'm not sure what they would be.

but i have the same issue right now... w/ my 91... and i'm changing the cat out.
