Front or Rear = your Speedo

So which wheels are the wheels that the speedometer runs off of? is it the larger rear drive wheels or the smaller front wheels? Well i guess I should say axels... heck now that I think about it I'm not totally sure what the speedometer hooks up to (I know not the wheels them selves) Can some one helop me out with that?

The speedo all runs off the sensor or the wheel tht is siiting ontop of the transmisson for the car if it is a 93 o later tranny then it is all done electronically if it is newer then a 93 then it is a plastic wheel gear that spins with a gear inside the tranny. The bigger the rims and tires are over stock on the car the farther off your speedo is going to be. like i have 18X8 in the rear with a 245-40 on there and my speedo is off by 5 mph at 40mph so that is how the speedometer works and where it is located at! i hope that this helps you.

I'm lookinng at getting new wheels and tires and I'm wanting to try to stay with in a close proximity to stock size so i don't have to worry about is the speedo right.

Not a problem as for the rim and tire size to go with to stay close i have a list of ratios and the percentage off the speedo is at 70 mph

here is a list of the sizes that will fit on the car some of the tire sizes may not exist. but this will give you an idea on what you can run and where you are speed wise as you drive so tickets dont mount up!

Tire size Actual speed at 70mph % error
195/50-R16 71.4 2.001
195/45-R16 69.09 1.306
205/45-R16 70.15 0.220
215/45-R16 71.22 1.747
215/40-R16 68.67 1.900
225/40-R16 69.62 0.543
205/40-R17 70.74 1.052
215/40-R17 71.69 2.408
225/40-R17 71.19 1.695
235/35-R17 69.38 0.881
245/35-R17 70.20 0.283

If you need more sizes let me know i only have a couple sizes for 18s but otherwise i got just about everythign else so let me know if you need more sizes. Hope this helps

HAHA Well tickets are mounting up with stock tires but those were a huge help. 17 inch wheels are the largest I want to go for now. That helps a lot thank you!

So, the speedo reads slower or faster than what you're actually going? I've always kinda wondered this, but haven't ever tried to figure it out for myself. Thanks for doing the work for me!
