CT-26 to CT-20B

which is the factory turbo for the 93 models... was the CT-20B in the 91's, and the CT-26 in the 93+?? And is it the same turbo with a different housing or is it a larger turbo all together... I have the CT-26, and I was surprised at how large it was for factory.. like between a T3 and a T-04...

Hey,
The Factory turbo in the 91 to 95 MR-2 is the CT-26 for all american model cars. The
CT-20B is Japanesse turbo that they use it has a little different intake and exhaust housing trim it is a direct bolt on for the CT-26 It creates more power and spools faster. Hence the differece in the 3sgte from america and the JDM version. (along with all the different regulations that the U.S. has) A t3-t4 is going to be bigger then both of those and depending on your trims will create more power then the CT's but is still a slower spool but more top end. It really comes down to what are you looking for! remember that the smaller your intake trim the faster the spool the larger the exhaust trim the more power! hopefully this helps.

When you speak of trim do you mean the diameter of the pipeing? or what do you mean?

the size of the tubing has nothing to do with trim. when i say trim i mean the size of the fans that are inside of the turbo. that is what trim is is the actual size of those fans and it reads like intake .57 exhaust .68 something like that the smaller the number the smaller the fan.

It wasn't so much what I wanted to do with the car, I was just wondering what turbo I had... the upgraded 1 or the factory 1... apparently I have the factory 1, which is fine with me... I only look to achieve 300hp at the flywheel, which all I really need to do at the point I already am, is pruchase a greddy intercooler SM.. Adjust the boost controller, and throw an adjustable fuel pressure regulator in... throw it on the dyno, have it tuned, and I am all set... this is all according to the power primer...

Hi im new to the forum and i have seen and herd about a turbo v-6 swap for the MKll. I was just curious how it stacks up with the turbo four cylinder. Im sure the v-6 puts out more power but is the hard work that goes into doing a swap really worth it?

From what i know the swap of the V6 is nice but it makes the back end alot more free seinging around corners becouse of the added wait! i think as well from what i have heard that you lose your A/C and couple of other things but dont quote me on that. There was MR-2 last year i think that was in Super Street that had the V-6 swap and had a supercharger on there and he actualyl won the tournment that they ran. From what i hear that it is a 50/50 deal some people love it and the othe hate it i dont know how much work it is but i will say that from what i have read if i was going to swap my engine out i would go with the JDM 3sgte and build that up and then swap out the motors but if you want something a little different and fun then go with the V-6 it all depends what you are looking for. Post your question and see what others have to say there are more then liekly alot of people that know more then i do about it.

actually depending on what v 6 you choose it can weigh less than the 3sgte. that mr2 you speak of was made by brad bedell. http://bedellracing.home.comcast.net/index.html

I'm pretty sure people use the 1MZFE or the older 3VZFE in there swaps. I have heard before that the 1MZFE is actually lighter or as light as the 3SGTE. The 1MZFE is found in V6 Camry's from '94 and up and is consisted of aluminum block and heads. TRD makes a supercharger for this engine, and that is what most people use, and I believe the guy from Sport Compact magazine used that setup. Turbo V6 engines of this type are not very easy to set up, and in a MR2, I don't think that there would be enough room for it in the engine bay. Tony the Tiger here on TN has a turbo V6 1MZFE in his Camry and he's at 460+ whp, and that's with a signifant hp loss due to the automatic transmission. But anyways, thought Ide chime in.
