Cold MR2

Current weather conditions are about 40-50F. I leave my car parked outside and I haven't had any problems with start up. I don't really let the car warm up in the morning since I'm always in a rush. I was wondering if this is harmful to the N/A motor. I don't redline or anything when it just starts up. I keep it below 3k until it warms up then I shift by at the farthest 4k. Yea just wondering if this was bad or not...

I've heard a rumor (my disclaimer LOL) that if you don't warm it up you will shorten the life of the rings thus developing blow by sooner than expected. If this is true, someone please elaborate...

of course it is, to some extent all pistons are not perfectly round when cold, due to heat they expand. if you decide to go rip on the engine before it has reached operating temp then that much more of combustion is placed upon the rings alone. that said the best way to warm ur eninge is to drive modestly, letting it sit to warm up is actually very inefficient.

yea thats exactly what I do. When I fire her up in the morning she's sitting at 2k rpms... When I drive down the road its around 2.25-2.5k rpms so i don't see why i can't just drive her respectably. I do feel sitting there is inefficient. I was just posting to make sure I wasn't harming her.

Also another thing the DEFOGGER!!!

IS the AC suppose to be on to defog? Cuz when its not it FOGS like crazy

its not necessarily bad not to warm before driving... but not to let the motor warm at all is very bad. to start and drive one mile down the road and shut off then drive mile back 8 hours later after work or something is very bad. the motor has to warm at some point in your trip.

also.

as far as A/C i'm not sure wha you mean. the compressor operation has no effect on blend door or position operation. but... when there is an issue w/ ATC.... bad linkage or operation (Climate Control) the default position for heater / blower operation is defrosters for safety purposes.

if your problem is you can't get outta defroster is 90 percent due to binding or broken linkage

to sit and let warm is better than driving cold to warm... much a difference no...

but in a turbo car... its actually better to warm from idle before driving and let idle for about 5 minutes before shutting off.

i had a friend who did it religously and his car lasted forever

It is better to let your car warm up first, partly because of the piston rings, and also to get some oil pumping through freely. If you are in a rush, I would at least let my car warm up for a minute or two, not necessarily to full operating temperature.
