MR2 Spyder sound system upgrades

Hi,

I have an '01 MR2 Spyder and I wanted to put in a good sound system for it. I've already replaced the HU with a Pioneer deck and the speakers with Rockford Fosgates, and the system is good, but the bass and top-down volume still isn't as good as I would want. Does anyone have an amp and/or sub installed in their MR2 Spyder, and if so, where did you put it? I don't know if an amp would fit underneath the seat, but if anyone has done that I'd like to know.

Sorry Shag

I looked all over the internet, as I love nice quality sound systems myself...The best I can tell u is to go to your nearest audio installation place (with a good reputation) and see what they can do for you... Audio is always an expensive endeavor, however if u go with the mindset of spending 1,000.00 then u should be able to get something very nice. This of course with the fact that u said what u wanted... u don't need a whole new system... just a few things

on spyderchat i came across someone who made sealed boxes shaped for the passenger inside (center) footwell. iirc it had an 8in sub which shld be more than enough for such a small car.

Now I know u can get a single or possibly 2 8's in there, however I know for a fact, and have done it.... at least in both the 86' and 91' mr2..... the JL audio 10" subs only require .66 cubic feet of airspace. which doesn't take up too much room, u can design it taller and skinnier, or wider and shoter and skinnier. They only require 125 watts to power, and only cost a total of 99 - 150 bucks a peice for the 0 series.so purchasing an amp would be much cheaper for you too... and u get alot of bang for your buch. plus they aren't that heavy for a sub so u won't loose too much performance gain in a car that already needs a little pick me up.u can make a bog yourself with a little knowledge. Get the dimensions from any JL audio authorised dealer, the wood, carpet, wood glue, screws, sealer, and all should only cost you 40$. you of course can do this with 8" subs too which only take 100 watts power from jl, and require a little less cubic footage. But with the 10 inch sub. figure 150- 200 bucks for the amp... a good one. 125 bucks for the sub... and 40 bucks for the box...Then 35 bucks for all the wires... don't cheap out there... they are really important... u can get all of them at any Radio Shack. This all assuming u have a stereo that has RCA outputs in the back!!

200
125
40
+ 35
-----
400.00 and you are finished.. with a fantastic 10" sub from JL audio booming away. u can go jut a little cheaper with the 8" sub of course like 50- 75 bucks cheaper... good luck, my fingers hurt now.

the 8 in the kick panel sound promising. i do not own nor have ever riden in a sypder but is there possibly any room behind the passanger seat, ie a truck style box? regardless and i don't mean to ruin anyones hopes but the sound resonence of a covertable is poor, it will be difficult to recreate an environment that will yeild the sound i believe your looking for. sorry for my .02.

Thers not much room for amps in the Spyder. The frunk might be an option but you will have to run miles of wire. Plus the lack of ventilation for heat transfer. Under the seat may be an option. And if you don't mind giving up some space in the rear storage behind the seats, you can install some good size speakers in the doors to the compartment. Something I have thought about doing, but haven't gotten around to.
