MR2 TRD2000GT Suspension

Hi there!

I was reading some of the scarce information on the net about the 2000GT's suspension and it's increase in track width from the standard MR2. Does anyone have any detailed information as to the main differences?

Also, is there any kind of exploded diagram of the 2000GT's suspension?

I live in Australia and the use of wheel spacers here is totally illegal, so I am looking at other ways (ie fabrication of parts) to increase the rear track width by 200mm per side on the rear and 25mm on the front.

Any info would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Craig

Hi MRQ Turbo - thanks for the quick reply!

Because of the tight laws in Australia, if you want to run an aftermarket rim the maximum allowable differences are :-

1 " or 25mm to the total width of the rim over stock size (ie 7.5" can only go to 8.5")

2" or 50mm to the total diameter of the rim over stock size (ie 15" can only go to 17")

Is there any way that using the offsets etc can help to fill the 4" or 200mm that I require?

Many thanks

Craig

Mr. Q's advice is the way to go.. but Austrailian law is gonna put a damper on that. I can think of no way to get the extended wheel base width you're looking for without some MAJOR re fabrication . And one that will be within Aussie law. Good luck..

While that is true, leaving the suspension allone will move your scrub radius in with wider offset wheels.

I ran into this with my last widebody. When you just add offset to the wheel you screw up, among other things the steering geometry. This will lead to poor turn in, darting under braking and other problems. You dont really need that much front tire on the MR2. Moving the hub out is a good alternative if you have the know how to do it.
