My turbo seems to be going out. It does not spool as quick and my vacuum drops to 22 instead of before at 17. Plus...when I step on the gas, I could hear grinding from the turbo, and its not as loud as before even when I hit 12psi.
Should I get it rebuild, buy a used(bebuilt) or upgrade? Thanks
what is the mileage on it??.....deciding how much power you really want to make and how much your willing to spend should help you decide which turbo upgrade to go with...
It has about 119K miles. I don't really care for any upgrade but if the price of rebuilding and getting a bigger isn't far off, I might go with another turbo. Thanks
A change in your vacuum is not telling you about the health of your turbo, but the health of your engine.
If you are seriously hearing scraping from inside of your turbo, STOP driving it.
You will sending thousands of tiny bits of metal into your engine.
I would diagnos what is going on with your car before you decide it is the turbo.
It would be a shame to get a new or rebuilt turbo installed to only have it fail because of a contaminiated engine
Hyde is correct...you really need to stop driving the car. get a compression test done after you get a new turbo..... I am sure u can get one on ebay with little money... getting it rebuilt will cost you quite a bit, so u might either consider a new turbo, an already used with low miles turbo, or a ball bearing turbo. This will cost u the most of course. Bigger is not always better.... most people think that if they have this big ass turbo on there that it will provide all their hopes and dreams. But I am sure you already know this. http://cgi.ebay.com/Garret-Turboneti...QQcmdZViewItem
This is one of the best deals I could find, and although it has a hefty price tag of 1,000.00 on it... it is already powdercoated, has the trim u want, and the size u need for quick spooling.... with upgrade possibilities. Not to mention that it is a ball bearing turbo... so for the money... if u have it... this is a great deal.. This is my opinion. There is only 1 day left for this bid, so I apologize when this link fades
a kit its 90 on ebay, and you could get a new shaft for 150 with both compresor and exeduser wheels. also a 100 or less, supra turbo would be good.
Grand total for a new (kind of) turbo its 90+150+100=350$ and a rebuild will cost you 350-450. Also keep in mind a supra turbo its a litle better.

I dont know where you got your turbo rebuilt at or where you heard that from but you got ripped off! I live in Orlando Fl and i just had my turbonetics rebuilt for $300 with all new seals adn a balanced shaft the whole nine yards!
After Engine diagnosis look at where you want to go with the car are you looking for hih hp or for fun driving? if you arent really looking to be running the 1/4 except for fun then i would stay with the ct-26 its a pretty good trubo for stock and why waste money on upgrading to something else!
