Rims Question

Okay, next question...

I have considered using different rims than the stock ones I have now. I was wondering:
A) If I should actually change to larger or different rims than my stock
B) And if so, which rims would be the best to accomplish this
C) Or...If I should just go with some HiPerf Tires instead (Im gonna go with HiPerf Tires regardless, but whether or not I should just put em on Stock vs. Aftermarket)

btw- Looks mean nothing if I can run another car into the ground....

Just looking for some opinions and suggestions...
Thanks for the help...

too many variables to your question..very common for most of us to upgrade to bigger rims/tires....what brand is all personal preference...

Fair enough

fair enough, i suppose my real question is what is the real benefit of upgrading to larger rims? My first reaction is that the real benefits would be from the tires, not necessarily the rims, I figure some would come from the lighter rims if you were to invest enough money in them, but would that really be significant enough to be worthwhile?

LIke I said, the asthetic appeal means nothing if it a waste of money, my car will be subtle as far as the exterior and I'm looking for the most performance.

bigger rims..usually mean bigger tires...wider contact patch on road...better for driving/traction...and u add in the bling factor of aftermarket rims...

Yes

The weight of the wheel does make a considerable difference...If u decide to go with Chrome, you will be looking at a significant weight difference, and yes u will feel it. Lightweight wheels are not too expensive if u look in the right places, and u can expect 20-30 lbs or possibly less.... But the heavy wheels are much bigger numbers, and multiply that by 4 and you do actually feel a difference.....On my Rx-7 I went from Chrome 18's to lightweight 17" silver wheels, and I could tell an immediate difference

depends what you want, straight line or twisty preformance, straight line, small and wide rim with a taller tire, twistys a larger rim with a small profile tire as to minimize tire roll over, the smaller the profile the harsher the ride of course. 30lbs for a rim is just ridiculous, a lenso 13x8 weighs in at 11lbs, a compairable width 17 could be anywhere from 16 - 22 lbs and still be considered a preformance wheel.

true

I know it sounds crazy but there are rims that weigh in at 30-even 40 pounds.

bigger rims require more torque to move them... yea you want to upgrade for better performace go wider for traction...

hmm

Well I went looking and I can't find a single rim that is 40 lbs. So I take that back... but I know the wheels on my rx-7 were 30 or so.... And I definately felt a difference in speed after changing wheels

word...

Traction sounds good to say the least...
Bigger rims/tires, I'm still looking for as light as possible of course, and as far as the ride comfort, as I said before, and will continue to say, Luxury is second to beating the hell out of another car...
Although, the looks would be kind of a nice feature...hehe.

btw the goal of my project is turns turns turns, even my rare "drag races" are on roads that are tight and curvy (one road, two lanes, two cars, one winner). God, I love street racing. Anyhow, thanks for all of the info guys...

i myself read 2 words of the membership agreement but i can asure you street racing banter is firmly discouraged, try to reference track racing, whether it be drag or circuit when you are staing your preference.

The Volk Racing TE-37s (I think that's what they are, anyway) were the hot rim a couple years ago as far as light weight goes. They look pretty cool too. They definately have the function over form appeal.

Yeah

Volk makes some very nice and lightweight wheels, however the car in that pic has wheels that I really don't like that much... I like 5 star wheels.... makes the car look tight.... just my opinion again, but there ya go... :0)
