Clutch problem

I am currently at school and away from my tools, but overnight my clutch took a shi* on me. I come out in the morning and start the car, I attempt to go into all gears and I hear a grinding noise. I had a brandnew master cylinder installed with a new clutch. The shifter moves into all gears when the car is off, but none when car is on.

I looked at master cylinder and all the dot 3 was gone. I checked comon places for possible leaks, and cant seem to find one.

So now i need to know if i risk refilling and attempt to drive home? Will that be safe since im only a hour and a half away?

And upon refilling I will have to bleed it to correct?

Finally i need to where the slave cylinder and is and what does it do?

Thanks very much

check the brake booster... secondary seal on the primary piston for the master cylinder seals the master cylinder to the break booster... in a poor bench bleed or incorrect bleed you will dry run seals and cause cracks and the cylinder can leak into the brake booster and you will never see a leak.

slave cylinder should be right next to the master cylinder... its the same thing only smaller

hope this helps

You didn't say what type of MR2 you have. I can assure you in a gen2 MR2 your slave cylinder is no where near your master cylinder. The slave cylinder is adjacent to the transmission in the rear, between the firewall and engine. It can be bled by jacking up the car. The bleeder valve cannot be accessed from the top.
