Out of no where the other day i started having this weird boost problem with my mkii.
If i start to get into boost under half throttle the car starts to jerk, shake, & bog...
If i get into boost at full throttle there isn't really any problem except the strong smell of raw fuel which just started as well...
The car runs & idles fine without boost.
I'll probably start digging into it over the weekend if i have time, but figured i'd see if anyone else ever came across this problem and had any suggestions.
Thanks!
-Mike

hmmmm..... good point! i usually try to change the cap and rotor about every other oil change but haven't for some time now! i'm sure they're both toast by now!!!! lol
Thanks! Hopefully that's the problem!

really!?!?!? i don't have the stock wires on it! i have the magnecor 8.5mm... i know the stock wires are usually pretty crappy but haven't really had any problems as of yet with the 8.5's. allthough i guess it's still possible... i've had them on the car for a little over a year now.

How much mileage on them and how much boost do you run?
The stock wires are wonderful, not crappy.
Our cars just eat wires regardless
All I run is stock wires.
there is probably about 8k-10k on the wires.
i run at about 14psi.
i remember when i first did the swap and had the oem wires on it they didn't last very long. i was having ign. problems a few months later and it turned out that the main problem was the wires. replaced them with oem's again and later replaced the oem's with the magnecor's and haven't had any ign problems until now. i'll def. check the resistance of the wires to see how bad they really are, but i'll bet the main problem is the cap and rotor... if the problem is the wires then they def. lasted a hell of a lot longer than the oem's!

yea i kinda agree... i think toyota did some research and develpement work and came up with a good idea that those wire work pretty damn good for that ignition system.
bigger wires allow more current draw thru them to create a bigger spark... bigger spark mean less saturation... no dwell... and you can start buying a new coil every 3,000 miles too...
What is this coil? I know about the cap rotor plugs and wired, but I recently had similar to the same problem... maybe I should order the kit, and some wires.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

using magnetic fields to induce a secondary voltage which flows thru a wire to your distributor cap... and from you cap to the cylinder needing to be fired...
that one coil sparks for all 4 cylinders and if you increase the damand on it your going to burn it out faster...
coils are like 150 - 250... not by any means cheap
Toyota calls the coil an "igniter"....go figure and I have had long, dependable use from stock Toyota wires. i wouldn't pay the extra money unless I was making mad HP... Also, if ignition compenents are all in good shape, maybe check O2 sensor.. If bad, will send incorrct signal and make you run really rich...and can cause the bogging and excess fuel you smell.
I have just recently discovered somewhat the same problem... Just tonight I was driving back from the track.... (I was just spectating), and I have noticed this b4, however didn't realise it was this until tonight... The car runhs fantastic... all the time, but I have never gunned it from 0 mph until recently... as if to race someone at the track. The car only got 5 psi of bogging boost, then without the bogging, stayed that way for about 15 seconds, then returned to normal 14 psi. It does this every time, but only if trying to race from 0 mph???
I ordered new cap, rotor, spark plugs, and wires... NGK, as I posted in the thread, so if it is an ignition problem let me know... I never reach higher than 5 psi in this situation so it is not the fuel cut. I am really clueless.... but it sounds similar to 430 hp toy's situation.
