2nd Generation Differences between 91-94

I am looking at a perfectly maintained 91 5sfe and wanted to know some of the differences between that year and the ones after it (car is selling for 6k btw). The car has 94k miles on it and is one owner, but I know i might run into some problems later on especially since I plan on autocrossing eventually.
I know the gear syncros have been known to fail under stressful conditions but what else should i look for?

So i guess my question is two fold, what problems to expect and what am I missing if i buy a 91 as opposed to a 93 for example.

pretty good question i can tell you of what i know and there are probably a couple other guys that have more then i know as well but as far as i know these are some of the differences:
the 93 motor over the 91-92 has a mere 5-7hp more due to a slightly oversized throttle body
The suspension on the 93 is dropped back 3 inches i believe and is widend a tad as well to make it not as tail happy ( personal prefrence some like some dont)
The interior is identical other then the shifter is shorter in the 93
The tranny is more apt to have lsd on it but that is something that you can ghange no matter what.

other then that i dont know of any more. things that could go wrong other then the syncros likeing to give us all problems there is the fact that our car eats plugs and wires there is probably more but that is all i know of good luck with the car and have fun autocrossing!

IMO, for that much money you could but a turbo, which is great for autocrossing, but a 5sfe in great shape would work wonders... as a 15 year old car u can come to expect to see some common problems, mainly maintainance by the previous owner, check to see how new the spark plug wires are, as well as the cap rotor, and other ignition. What reciepts does he have, if he was the original owner, he should have all reciepts from the beginning of the car, and of course as u are driving, check for smoke, hesitation, clutch, synchro's, and steering... Check the tires, the brakes, all lights.
