So I Came Across A MR2 Owner and...

in his 5S-FE... he put the crank and cams from a 3sgte w/ some extra fuel delivery said it did wonders...

I seen it take off afterwards and i was kinda impressed...

it moved nicely... he said he got the parts from a totalled duece he bought for parts and was trying combination swaps to find a good product... he wanted to build a nice N/A w/ some power...

any of you heard of using this...?

Not exactly. But I've heard of using the crank from the N/A in a 3sgte to build a stroker. So I guess that follows...Interesting about the cams though..

i heard that too...

i wonder how the bearing set up would work... if you'd used bearings for the 3sgte cams would they fit in the 5s-fe head... i shoulda got some more info on how he did it...

how is it that he put the 3sgte cams into the 5sfe..... something tells me he was pulling your leg.....

toyota FE and GE motor cams are completely different...... the FE's have a single cam gear on the timing belt, then internally the cams are meshed (ie, rotating in opposite directions).... also, the FE cams generally have the distributor off the end of the motor (by #1).....

the GE motors have 2 cams on the timing belt, are NOT meshed, travel in the same direction, and have the distributor hanging off the side of the motor.....

the only thing in terms of cams that i would find that would work.... would be aftermarket, or to get some blank cams and have them specifically ground.....

and also.... a 3sgte crank.... wouldn't that end up having a shorter stroke? would make less torque and ultimately lower compression......

Jeff Fazio (Jeckle/Hyde) built Hyde into a stroker this way...maybe he'll see this post and elaborate...

Hyde was the 5SFE crank in the 3SGTE.

MR2BAD, you quoted toyotaspeed90talking about the problem of putting the 3SGTEcrank into the 5SFE. I am prertty sure he is dead on. If you put the 3SGTE crank into the 5SFE, as indicated inthe first post, you would lose all kinds of power.

I'm not positive on the cams, but considering how different the heads are, I am doubtful that it is even possible to swap them over.

did you not build a stroker this way? Or am I mistaken? i thought I read a thread awhile back that you did this?

stroker = 5s crank in 3s, op is talking about 3s crank in 5s block.

besides the fact that the latter is a bad idea all together b/c of aforementioned lower comp, the rods would not accept the the crank and would have to be machined, i don't think you would want to do this b/c of the amount of material that would have to be taken off.

also is it not a cam and journal head meaning there is not even a bearing to exchange.
(i do not own a 3sgte and have never had the head apart)

Read the first sentence of my post.
Then read the first sentence of the original post.

They are two different things
