2nd Generation Cv Axle

Here is how it broke. I was at the track just seeing how it ran. I just launched and it popped just shattered. The joint and six balls along with washers and spacers were gone. I ordered a new one from http://www.chicoraceworks.com/. Josh sent me a rebuild abs turbo right cv half shaft with out the drive shaft out of the tranny. After looking at everything and the person I bought the car from had the motor rebuilt but the person didn't install all the bolts. There were only two bolts in the shaft. So I tried to take out the left over bolts without luck. I called my local race shop Fusion works racing. They said it would be okay to drive on the shaft with four as long as I don't mash it down. About the time we got the car running and going.

Issues
I started going all good. I got onto the highway and hit about 60 and my car felt like it was hydroplaning. The backend of the car just kept swaying. I got off the highway and checked everything and nothing looked out of place. Checked the tire pressure and tighten the bolts as much as I could. Went and drove it again. Fixed the problem. Well about a week later I start hearing a clicking coming from the right side over and over when the gas is pressed. Now the sway is back again but only at 70-75mph.

Does anyone have any ideas what to check?

clicking from where...?

clicking during turns are outter CV joints...
clicking during straight away acceleration are inner CV joints...

i had the sway problem like that before my problem was extreme tire wear...

you might wanna check rear sway bar bushings... tie rods end freeplay and ball joint freeplay... pretty much jack up the rear and start shaking and trying to move your suspension pieces...

2nd Generation

the clicking sound only comes on a left turn and the sway is only on the left turn. it just makes no sense. I have tried that jacking it up everything appears to be good everytime I check. What should I check? I had a bolt on the arm right under the wheel assembly tapped cause it was crossthreaded.

ok i got real confused right quick... haha MR2's dont use drive axles on the steer side of the car...

the clicking to me sound like a binding rack/pinion... maybe due to a worn unit or loose mounting bolts on the left side.

Its not the left. Its the right shaft. I know the left goes straight into the tanny.

On the left turns I hear the click sound from the right side. I get a sway at 70+plus. There is a small shaft that comes out of the tranny on the right side then into a cv half axle.
I have a 93 tranny in my 91 mr2

Bad ball joints can cause sway and make a good amount of noise.

I still have my old cv shaft. The only thing I need for the joint to be working again is the cv joint six balls and the spacer thing.
If that is the case would it be okay to take off my new shaft then take the parts I need and apply it to my old shaft??

so you need to assume it has to do with the work you performed...

now what did you do three weeks ago... the trans swap or axles...?

after reading your original post...

the pass side axle CV joint broke...?
you replaced it... but the new one wasn't a complete axle...? the insert to the trans... you can't remove it... and it only has two bolts holding it in...?

but it is my understanding that no bolts hold any axle shaft in... there is a snap ring on the end if the shaft that lock inside the diff...

and looking at the factory manual right now i don't see any bolts holding any driveshaft.

the output seal for the trans has a cover w/ a few small bolts...

your going to have to take some pics and post them cause i'm understanding the problem just not how you got there

Okay,

If you have ever replaced a CV Shaft on the right hand side on a MR2 Turbo there is a shaft that comes out of the transmission. Then the CV Shaft is bolted on this piece by six bolts and three washers. You can get a diagram from the dealer that will show you. When the joint broke it was cheaper to by a remaned CV Shaft rather than a cv joint assembly. There was two bolts holding the CV Shaft to the Shaft out of the transmission instead of a six.

i got the same manuals the dealers do... and i was looking at a pic like that but i was hoping more of a real time pic from your actual car...

i have seen turbo models... i have a a N/A personally and i've worked on almost every kind of car under the sun but i'm currently a diesel technician...

so i've seen a large variety it just gets hard to put a mental picture to what your describing...

your talking about the left shaft or the right....? in that picture

wtf is that small triangle supposed to be on the right shaft.

cause wha i kno from imports is 90% of the outter cv joints... are called double cardan u joints... known as rzeppa's... you know the balls inside the cage.... slide in and out of a plunging tripod...

i'm at a loss... i would need to see actual pictures to understand... sorry
