USA 2nd gen vs. 3rd gen

Aright heres the deal: im waiting on a settlement check which is roughly going to be like 10k and thats where it starts. I've been wanting an mr2 which of course im gonna get with that money...my question is would it be better to swap in a 2nd gen or a 3rd gen? i mean, what is the difference besides hp? which one holds more hp? if anyone could let me know i would greatly appreciate it thanx

The MKII was only brought to the US from 91-95.

From what I've seen ... Gen2s.
The Gen3s tend to crack once you get to huge power levels.

Regardless, I'd never want a Gen3. Although they can make more power right off the bat and can get to the first level of power increases quicker & easier, you are not easily going to find parts for them in the U.S.

I've been quite content with my Gen2 engines.

Don't want to look like a dumbass, but from what I've heard is that a 2nd gen Mr2 can hold up to around 500hp on stock internals. But DON'T take my word for it, something that I've heard, and havent had the time to read up on it.

I am sure I could and I am sure I did ... just not on the dyno.
My last 1/4-mile runs we were doing 26 psi of boost.
That dyno was only at 22 psi.

All we blew was the headgasket

True about the Gen3 having hard to find parts, but they are accessible somewhat. Its the performance parts that aren't readily available because we live in the US and the US only received the 2nd gen engine. Therefore, the 2nd gen being able to reach higher limits which is on document. But, there are vendors who are actually conforming their inventory to include Gen3 performance parts. Such as ATS, Berk, MTbuggies and many more...

So pretty soon we'll see a gen3 in the 500hp range that will withstand what the Gen2 can. At least that's what I think. (Yes this is biased because I have a Gen3)

We've seen Gen3s go higher than Gen2s ... we've also seen them with cracked blocks at those levels.
