2nd Generation Ignition gets stuck

The actual ignition switch where you insert the key gets stuck regularly in my 91. I stick the key in and it will not turn.
I have to wiggle it and wiggle it until about 2 min later it turns finally. I tried some WD40 but i don't think it helped much. Should I replace the whole unit or is there a simple fix?

when the ignition doesn't turn, don't constantly turn the key. You do not want to break the key in the ignition. Instead, turn the steering wheel side to side a few times. This will ussually work.

hmmm let me clarify. Turning the steering wheel side to side often allows the key in the ignition to turn.
