I'm getting so FUCKIN sick and TIRED of the technical problems in my Mr2!!!! I got the distributor changed, got the car running, drove it around, turned it off, went to a friends house, went back to turn it on, and then "BAM"! IT FUCKIN DID NOT WANT TO TURN ON!!!!! I tried to turn it on, it tried to crank, but it didn't! SMELLED LIKE FUCKIN GAS! AND WHITE SMOKE CAME OUT FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR, FROM THE VENT!!!!!!!! My best guess is the FUEL PUMP.....Any suggestions!!!!???
P.S.-Sorry for the outbursts........just a little stressed on how things are going with me right now.....
welcome to mr2 ownership....lol.....i know how you feel..last summer i had quite a few minor problems that kept me off the road...hopefully all these issues are sorted and i'll be okay this season...
If you are smelling gas, I would guess that the fuel pump is working.
Why would you think the fuel pump is bad?
White smoke is typically coolant burning or oil buring outside the engine, in/on the exhaust or exhaust manifold. For either case, you need heat. How long was the car off?If you can't get the car started, how was it hot enough to smoke?
Did you happen to open the engine lid to see where the smoke was coming from?
It sounds like the car is GASPING for air, and it can't turn on, so then it smokes, and while its gasping for the air, you hear and feel a vibration, and it sounds like theres a metal pipe vibrating......I have no idea, I just feel like lifting the car myself to check it out, but I don't have the tools to do it.......going nucking futs man
crapppp.... yesterday was THE day to give this 92 mr2 to my girl.. newly painted, brakes and hoss were all changed.. brand new battery.. new rims and tires.... got the car on New Year's day and prepared to deliver it to her for valentines day... and there it was!! the minute she started the car, smoke started comin out from the left back side of the vents!!
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! didnt smell like gas, but the freakin coolant was squirking all over the newly washed engine and car and the heat of the engine was costing the smoke!!!
It also can't be the condensor.....isn't it on the RIGHT side of the car? Where all the belts go? And to answer Jekyl, I had barely drove the car, from the mechanic straight to my friends house, and thats literally a 5 minute drive, and the car was off for 3 hours.

DDAAMMNN that sucks man....sounds like you didn't get any last night then
Cold engine, metal clanking, trying to suck air ...
Check your timing belt. If it slipped or broke you could have bent a valve causing air/fuel to be pushed back through the intake, then air filter out the left side- ???
Metal clanking could be the valve hitting.
If it was misdiagnosed by the mechannic this could make sense also. Once timing belts skip a tooth they can get/have fractures and soon lose the tooth. Within seconds after losing one tooth the belt strips. If it was weak maybe it made it the few miles. Start up load could have stripped it, caused a bent valve and then the symptoms you describe.
Toyotas are supposed to have a non-interference fit from what I understand. (Meaning if the belt strips the valves can't be bent by the piston coming up when they are still open.) But if the head has been shaved the clearances could be different.
my mr2 has been pretty reliable so far. *knocks on wood* a year and a half with only two problems, ignition coil blew, and snapped a tranny cable and got stuck in third gear.
the car used to puff smoke when it started, they said water was getting into my engine, but it has not done that in a month now?? then yesterday something broke, car still rins fine, but when i am on the gas pedal it sounds like air being sucked in, but i checked the intake, maybe air is bleeding out somewhere else, gonna look at everything today as i have the day off.
HAHAHHAHA.. that was good!! actually, didnt need to get any at all... u know how it is when them toys messes up!! i meant, mr2 being the toy.. lol.. we just had to go out w/ my SLK then.. .
awwwwwwwwwwwww... but anyhow, i still need to find out what caused this crap!!
