hey sometimes when i start the car, the water temp guage goes up all the way, but the car is fine. then i turn off the car, and wait for the guage to settle, then when i start it up again its fine. anyone else have this prob. also. the drivers side dore makes a loud click when you open it all the way? (common?) cuz i know another mr2 that does the same thing with the door. any sugestions on how to fix these problems?

I think your temperature sensing sending unit is malfunctioning. Mine would tell me the engine was overheating but it was not. Need to replace. It's an easy fix. About $14.00 for the unit.
As far as the door. Look for something that may be binding. WD 40 works miracles!

this is a relatively simple fix, and is easy to find... there is a bolt that holds a hinge in place......well notr necessarily a hinge, but 2 long metal rods connected in the middle by a rivet I believe... anyways at the door where this is connected... there is a rubber covering that covers it... simply remove the cover, and tighten the bolt holding it to the door... this will only be a temporary fix, as the whole peice will need to be replaced. I don't know why it does this, but it did it to me in my 4 runner as well as the 2... I cannot remember the name of the peice that I had to purchase to fix the problem. But thats what u have to do anyways.

look up the resistance values for the thermistor (Temp Sending Unit) and test across the wires.

outta spec is bad, in spec is good...

its sounds like the sending unit is shorted... or has an intermittent open in it.
