Maf Q?

how much do the MAF units cost. im having poor acceleration prolems with my 91 turbo and got to the MAF sensor the when checked, it was out of specs. ( the connection that is tested for resistance when the door is open and closed was super low)... normal when closed i think is 200-600 ohms, but when i tested it closed it was about 150 kila ohms.

I think they are like 300.00...

Disconnect the harness. On the air flow meter. There should be 7 pins, From LEFT to RIGHT

Pins 5 and 6 are E2 and VS...

Resistance from VS to E2 is 200 - 600 Ohms at fully closed
20 - 1200 Ohms at fully open

If it doesn't meet these specs it need to be replaced... but test it multiple times before you condem it. Make sure you have good connection on you test leads

yes... there is three kinds of MAF in all cars.

all others are self cleaning, the Vane Type which the MR2 has you have to clean yourself.

be careful what you use to clean it. You don't want to damage the Intake Air Temp Sensor which is in the MAF housing.

you can remove the potentiometer covering on the backside and check the resistance strip. see if it has a glazed or worn type of hot spot.

be careful huh?... i think i might have F'ed it up already then cause when i rebuilt the motor (and didn't know much about restoring cars), i cleaned out my MAF sensor with engine degreaser (the purple bottle) and water. i just sprayed it in the unit and rinsed it out. just about how bad was my decision to do that?

k... i cleaned everything and now everything reads to specs. but i was wondering, when i test the two leads during the opening of the door, the reading drops into K ohms while the door in between positions. is that normal?
