routing gauge lines

what is the best form of routing gauge lines from the engine compartment to the driver compartment? i need to install a boost gauge i'd like to know the tips before i start. thanks

p.s. i dont have a gauge cluster or anything so i'll probably mount the gauge somewhere temporarily for now.

well, give me a day or two and i'll post up some pics of how i made my custom cluster, but for now, this is how i routed the wires for 6 gauges

ok, on the firewall behind the drivers side seat, there is a huge rubber grommet, i routed all of my wires through it, along the back of the wall (under the carpet), and kept it all neat and tidy by tuckin them into the original conduit that runs alongside the shifter, slide the wire to the left of the climate control unit, above the stereo and mount it there in the center piece, or slide it into where the cluster used to be

Or, thru that grommet in the firewall, down the back wall, along the doorsill (all under the carpet) , and up to the A-pillar... those are just the most standard ways

anywho....cleanliness is next to godliness
peace out and good luck
Corey

i drilled my own hole through the rear firewall. i installed a really nicely sealing grommet. i used copper tube to run my vac source for the boost gauge. on either end, i used brass unions and then used the nylon hose to go to the manifold (on one end) and then to thegauge on the other end. the copper tube is nice since i ran it down the center console on the side of the shifter cables.

copper tub huh?... i didnt even think that. i noticed it gets pretty hot in the engine compartment. will i need to worry about damage to the regular vacumm line that i use for the boost gauge?

I went with electrical gauges and pulled the wires through the existing grommets.

^ That's the best way to go. Running vac lines into the cab can be a pain in the ass in the long run.

its hard to make out, but run your wires along that original loom....the guy that had to wire something up after you would love you for it.....and yes, go with electrical, no vacuum tubing

that looks awsome... but i do think the mechanical gauge is gonna be a pain cause wouldnt the vacumm hose get pinched somewhere throughout the distance of the cabin and engine bay?
