Automobile Magazine: 45 minute interview taken down to an 8-word quote

A month or two ago I get an e-mail from a writer, Preston Lerner, from Automobile magazine who had found me via my Web site. He indicated that they were doing a story on affordable mid-engine used cars.

They did the story on the MR2, the Boxster and the NSX.

To my surprise, he was seriously focused on the MK1s. I assumed, since he found me, that he was interested the power-house MKIIs ... but it was fun that he actually wasn't interested in Hyde at all. He was interested in the fact that I've owned 13 MR2s of all varieties.

Anyway, we had a wonderful 45-minute conversation about the cars and, to his credit, he forewarned me that it was not a big story and that my part in it was not going to be big.

Well, I just picked up the copy of Automobile (April 2007) and found the article on page 70.

He only used one quote from and it was on the qaulity of the Toyota engines.
I had said, "They last a couple of years past forever."

He then mentions that I have owned 13 MR2s and that I drive an 85 as my dialy driver ... never mentioning the other two. hahaha.

Anyway, it's a fun article all around.

Cool... They do that sometimes. I was interviewed by Southern Living 6 or 7 years ago when I was Chef of a new establishment that opened in the Ritzy part of west Little Rock. The interview lasted almost an hour as I gave the woman a tour. She told me the article would come out the following month. NOPE.. it came out over a year later. There was only a couple of sentences quoted by me and 1 picture of the dozens we took... Oh well....

you always have to take a lot more pictures than needed. when i picture a car for ebay, i typically take 50-65 pictures. unfortunatly the software i use only allows 35 ><

I'm a photographer for a living. I assure you that I know about taking extra photos.

I also write for the newspaper that I work for, so I realize that space and
content do not always mix well and it is impossible to include eveything.

Having been in the business 7+ years, I also know that people that are
interviewed frequently prefer that the end results would be slightly different.

It's life. It happens.

That is funny becuase i actually read that article! and noticed that they had talked to you. What i enjoy is that they match the MK1 and MKII with the boxter and then NSX and other higher end cars. I am glad that we as owners are not the only ones that relized the superb craftmanship in these cars but as well that they are well thought of in such high regaurds. As for the comment on toyota engine i think you hit the nail on the head! well said
