wastegate question?

is there a special procedure for pressing the valve seat into external wastegates or should u be able just to seat it in by hand? after torquing the wastegate to the flange, the gasket still leaks, and its a new gasket. (I cant get the valve gasket to seat flush into the wastegates surface).

What brand wastegate? I know my friend has a lot of problems with the Tial sealing on his car. Seems like he is replacing the gasket quite often. Do the surfaces on both sides look flush? Maybe a problem with warping?

I gotta agree with Russ.. maybe 1 or both surfaces aren't flat.. can you get a straight edge on both contact surfaces, criss cross it and see if it's flat? The double gasket could work...

WEIRD... the day i put the wastegate on and had the leak, i drove it around the block to see how bad it was really leakin ( i based is off my boost gauge which read about 7 psi). I did this because i was hoping through some crazy form of god or thermal expansion the gasket would automatically seal. well, today i fired it up and i couldnt feel any leak and and when i drove it, it boosted all the way to 10 psi. what do u guys think?

HHHmmm?what do you mean by " feel any leak"? You mean with your hand? or from driving it?
What turbo are you using? That would determine what you "should" be boosting.
Maybe carbon deposits are sealing the breach...If thats the case, I wouldn't depend on that as a permanent solution.

i based what the boosting pressure should be by the ext wastegate spring, which is rated at 10psi. im using the greddy TDO6. for carbon deposits go, i just cleaned both surfaces and the gasket is new. the intense leak that there was before i was able to feel by hand. when i put it pack on the car after the new gasket and cleaning the surfaces, i stil felt a slight leak and when i drove it, the car boosted to 6-7 psi. after driving it, the leak was gone and the boost was at 10 psi.
