So guys i wanna get my 1992 MR2 painted again wanna get it stock black but qustion is would it be worth getting it painted at MAACO ? dothey do a good job cause i wanna make sure that wen they do it the dont end up painting the windows or rims or exhust or something ...... and how much would u estimate the cost? i want it to have a really great looking clear coat look like new......and also wanna redo the interior where can people use get that done?
if you do the highest maaco package i believe they do two coats, the under and then the gloss so it looks like a factory job. its around 1600 iirc
they are supposed to tape everything off so it comes out right, but, it all depends on the laziness of the shop. also they do not do stuff like the inside of the engine bay and under the hood etc. its mostly just the exterior.
We get a lot of work done on our wholesale cars, but mostly we just do the cheapest possible just so it looks good on the auction lol

Maaco isn't a bad company... You can get a decent job from them without spending a great deal of money, however they use lower grade paint... so it is not all the tech's fault... after all there is a reason as to why they can do a paint job for 300.00 or less.... a good paint can cost 300.00 and up all by itself. The trick is the amount of coats they put on, and the way they place the clearcoat.... most of the time they mix the clearcoat into the paint which is a cheap, and s;ightly innefective way of doing things. it will last and hold up for a couple of years... the main thing is to either tip the painter 100.00 and ask him to apply another clearcoat after the painting os done, or if the Maaco near you isn't tip wanting... pay a little more, and watch them every day to make sure that the work is effective... make sure they tape everything, sand down to the metal, and paint with as many coats as possible, seeing as it is cheaper paint (not bad but cheaper) it will do what it is supposed to, and the car will come out looking very nice. But the clearcoat is the most important thing you can concentrate on... make sure a seperate clearcoat is applied after the painting is complete or you pretty much wasted your $$ for a 2 year paint job.... but for 300.00 ........ 2 years isn't that bad to me....
depending on the shop, they can do custom, most will for the extra "tip" even if they dont do that. like he said, they mix and only put one coat on it. only the most xpensive one (1500+) does a separate clear coat.

From what I've heard MAACO isn't all that great, but then again, I wouldn't know, I haven't gone there to experience it myself, but if you do go to MAACO, take a pic on how it looks when your done. I want to see their work.
I have had Maaco experience, and to tell you the truth, I was rather impressed with the overall quality. They did however mist the exhaust a little bit. Other than that the paint seemed of decent quality, and the workmanship was very nice.I went there on a daily basis, and did not tip whatsoever.Total cost was 356.97... this was over 10 years ago.
And on a firebird. The paint maintained for a total of 2 years without any problems, and almost to the 2 year anniversary, I had a minor crack in the paint, which was not very costly, and looked good after the fix... this lasted me another 6 months b4 I sold the car for a large profit from the horrible looking condition it was in. I will give Maaco alot of credit for a cheap painting co. and I WILL go to them again. But when it comes time to do the entire bodykit, and a really nice paintjob that I want to last for a very long time, I will fork out the 2600.00 for ACI (Auto Craft International) to do the job right. Til then, I will be happy with a minor 3 - 500.00 paint job. Cheers
macco is good at painting bad at prepping, aka tape your car off (windows, rims, key holes, lights etc..) do that and it will be good, thats what my friend did looks really good not a bad idea to pay a lil more for a extra clear coat also.
like i mentioned running a wholesale/retail business we send on average 1-2 cars a week. we do the cheapest job and they come out nice, recently someone hit me and their insurance covered it, the merc still looks brandnew, you would never know it had been hit.
i guess any shop can be good given quality workers, and vice versa.
