i am having the same problem. jumped it twice. runs fine till i turn it off then its gone. pretty sure the alternator (original from 93) is shot. just waiting to jump it to limp it to the mechanic.

if its not the alt, then check things like the trunk light. my roommates M3 did not have a bulb in the trunk, so the socket would draw power and drain the battery.

Sounds like there's something in your car that's using electricity while it's turned off. Put an ammeter in series with the battery and see how much of a current drain there is with the car off. It shouldn't be more than a few mA for things like the clock and keep-alive memory for the radio.
If you see a larger current drain then start pulling fuses until you find out which circuit is drawing the power. At that point you can diagnose further to find the specific component that's causing the problem or if you have a partial short circuit in the wiring somewhere.

^ good. I hope he does you right. I luckily found 2 mechanics that are awsome. If i have a problem I don't to mess with or can't figure out, I take it to one of them. They diagnose it and fix it right--The 1st time.. none of this going back for the same damn thing.. Thats just wrong. Especially when they want to charge you again for something.

anyways... my battery problem is solve, now i just need to find a way to take out that amber side marker on my car.. either replace it w/ a clear one or get a new molding for it..

anyone knows how or where i can get both? my blinker is now a clear one, so i wanna match it w/ the side marker..

i see you guys have a serious problem and i may be able to help i understand you guys have been having a problem with dead batteries and that that you replaced the altrnator but im sorry to ay that might not be the full problem..... you see the alternator only charges the battery ad that it may have been half the problem. you see if your battery is going dead then you got a draw somewhere in your electric system and your battery was weak from all the times it was drained. there fore the somewhat dead alternator wasnt charging the battery fully, now that you got a new alt it is tryin to charge the battery fully but you might still have a small draw in the system. i would say check the draw on the starter and if it is more than what is specified for the vehicle then replace. if it is under spec then it is good and your problem is elsewhere. this is not a vehicle specific problem it just happens on used cars. another thing to check is the glove box light..... it is not necessarily hard to check you see the light may stay on even if you close the compartment. check to see if you have a thin layer of "grease" or other substance on the top of the battery.... battery slime builds up on top of bateries and will carry voltage and the battery will essentially ground its self out. there are many possibilities that this could cause the battery to go dead and i highly doubt that it was soley the alternator because the alt doesnt draw anything when the vehicle is off.. i hope all of this helped..... mechanics arent always 100% reliable because they have a very busy schedule for their day and are only paid for a certin amt of time on a job. they may have just parts changed and been throwing presents at your car that it may not have needed and you are payin for it....... i hope i helped you and that these probs may not resurface for another couple months...
