4th Generation turbo timer

hey everyone i just got myself a toyota mr2 turbo and im not to familiar with the turbo timer. Is it normal for it to just shut off right when u turn off the ignition? Sometimes it does that and most of the time it doesnt. It is a Greddy full auto turbo timer.

the engine you should shut down when the timer has completed it's countdown. Make sure it's set for what ever time you want. Somewhere between 1 and 3 minutes..
If you've been running fast(freeway, etc) 1 to 3 minutes. If you've just been cruising around casually(under 45mph avg.) then there's really no need for a cool down.

ok so your saying that the turbo timer wont kick in if it senses that ders no need for it to turn on.

iirc it stays on for the set amount of time no matter what the temp is. but you should set it for longer if you were pushing your car at all, less if you just went up to the store.

No, let it run when you think it needs to. Like when you've been running the car fast. Such as just getting off the freeway. If you just went to the store and never went over 40mph, then there's no need for a cool down. Just turn it off.
The idea is that you let the engine idle for a couple of minutes till the turbo cools down. The turbo timer turns off your car so you don't have to sit there while it's idleing. If the turbo is real hot from running hard and you just turn off the engine without a cool down, the oil in the bearings will literally fry. After this happens time and time again, it shortens bearing life. So essentially, letting the turbo cooldown before shutting off the engine will lengthen turbo life.

ok yea i get what it does but what im trying to say is that sometimes the turbo timer doesnt kick in even if i was driving it for a while and stuff. Im just wondering if that is normal or if there is something wrong. most of the time it kicks in but like once in a while ill turn off da ignition and the whole thing just shuts off and the turbo timer doesnt kick in.

Do you have the parking brake up(engaged) when you shut down the engine?
In order for the timer to time the idle , the parking brake must be up. If it's down, it will turn off or not engage. it's a safety feature.
