Gen1 Alternator Question

I have a quick question. I currently have a 97 corolla (AE101 I think). Anyway, I am considering purchasing a MK I MR2. I'm just wondering if the alternator from the corolla will fit on the MR2. I bought a high output alternator to cope with my amp (killed the battery with the stock one) and I was thinking means the engines are both a 4A variant that the alternators might be swappable. If anyone knows weather or not this is possible that would be great. I just want to have a heads up on what could turn into an added expence to the vehicle.

hey i dont know exactly if it will fit but i believe it will. your best bet would be to go to auto zone pep boys or your local auto parts distributor and ask them at the parts desk they would be able to look up the part number and reference that to all modles that the part will fit. hope this helps and i do encourage you tobuy the car i have an 85 and i love it

they aren't the same...... on the 4age the alternator is on the intake side, the 4afe it's on the intake side

however, you can make it fit.... you need to get a piece of metal that's about 1/2" square by 3" long or so.... drill & tap one end (for the slider) and drill a hole at the other..... the top bolt of the 4afe alternator is about 1/2" towards the middle of the case compared to the 4age...

i had a 4afe alternator running on my smallport 4age for about 2 years before it died....

however, being that you have a 97 you might need to rewire the main plug to match what's on your alternator (mid 90's toyota changed the style of the plug from round to oval)
