New to MR2s

Im new to mr2's and Ive been tryin to find one for a while now. I just wanted to get your opinions on it and what kinds of things I should look for when I go to look at it.

Its a 1991 with a swapped 3S for a 97 with 60K on the clock. Only mods are a 2 3/4" downpipe, HKS intake and its been lowered 1"

Seeing as how Im new to all this, could you guys give me some things to look for and questions I should be asking, besides all the obvious.

Any help is appreciated

The last year they imported the 2nd gen MR2 was '95.So a '97 would have to be JDM. Is this a turbo model? by 3s do you mean 3sgte or 3sfe ?

From my past experiences of shoppng for a 2nd gen, things I'd look for: Engine Compression check, timing belt change, accessories changed (water pump, oil pump, etc.), run through the gears and check for grinding (is it a 97 tranny too?), and also if it is a 3sgte swap I'd check to see if he/she did a good job and took their time with the swap. Since you are new to MR2s, it'd probably be good to find a friend that knows more about them to take along with you. If it is a 97 Engine, you'll have a CT20B turbo, which I also have on my personal car. Lots of fun

i would also look for a boost controller (manual or elec). and sadly if i was shopping for one, i would prefer it to not have it.

i would love to have a gen3 motor in my car.
