I got tired of blowing up VTec's and got a 91 MR2 Turbo w/24,000 original miles.I have an intake, exhaust, bov, greddy SMIC,turbo timer, short throw shifter,slotted-drilled rotors, firehawk pads,KYB AGX shocks, and Tein S springs,Dronell D-Power rims, so far. My problem is this, my shocks are new, the tein's were on the car when I bought it, I bounce ALL over the road, its worse than a civic with cut springs!! I pulled the springs and did not see tein on them at all, Im not sure if there ST'S, Teins, or knock off's, any suggestions on better springs before I waste some money? 2, when I brake hard the car actually skips, locks up and slides???? 3, I have a greddy boost controller, and a greddy boost cut controller sitting in my garage, do I need to add bigger injectors or fuel pump, to raise the boost from factory 10 psi to 13-14?? Any help will be appreciated...
The KYB AGX are 4-way adjustable, If I use setting 1 its a better ride, setting 4 is bladder busting, roller coaster, thanks for the info on the boost....
i have the kyb and s-tech setup. horrible but cheap. never bottoms out but aside from the dragstrip its a major pain. thank god its not a daily driver.
if you can pick up a set of tokico illumina and h&r springs. i drove a modded mr2 for a day for a friend. afterward i asked what coilover setup he was running and he laughed. said this combo and he runs it on all his mr2s. he has 3 including a stroker widebody. it feels like a firm oem setup but still looks low. its really that perfect.
sell that boost cut controller. on the mr2 you only need to remove/plug a vacuum line to eliminate boost cut. just make sure the boost controller is set right. when you pull the line there is NO SAFTEY NET. sell the boost cut controller on ebay.
the vacuum line is in the bottom right corner if you are standing behind the car. you will see a small black vacuum line running to the bottom of a small black square box. pull it down. there shld be a black plastic nipple. i just put a big screw in the end of the line and ziptied it to one of the other lines around there.
my jdm ecu lets me run 15psi with no boost cut but i run 17psi at the track so i disconnect it each time i go. someone showed me once the first time i went to the track so i am passing along the info.
*** as a word of caution, once you raise the boost that suspension setup while get squirelly around turns. take it slow first. the car sits too low for the suspension so it will bump and then slide. ****
Great info, I REALLY appreciate the help, any SW20 owners groups around Orange County California????Great site, lots of useful info, thanks alot.....SW20owner
My friend owns UPFD in California, they build 1400 H.P. Supras & Skylines and have several NHRA World Records, I scavanged a lot of my parts from his shop, benefits worth having!! Anyways he has a set of Eibach's new in the box, I can get them for $50.00, do you think these would ride better than my Tein's?? Also he has a 92 Turbo that has a fully built beams engine, HUGE turbo setup, full suspension, tranny, loads of elctronic goodies, full cage, runs 550 HP daily driver, no bull, the only miles on the engine are from the dyno tune, never once on the street, wants to sell for $13,500, I can get pictures of it if someone wants them.If I had not already bought mine I would be all over it, this thing is sick from the rims up, and all top dollar parts....let me know if anyone is interested...you can google search UPFD for info.....
I posted earlier about my car bouncing all over the road with my KYB AGX/Tein S-Tech set up.It was the worst ride ever. Just to let anyone interested know, I put the Eibach Sportlines on this weekend. They lower the car 1.6" front and back. The Tein's lower the car 1.5" front/1.7" back. I think the car looks better and also will allow a wider rear tire with the Eibach's. OK, AS FOR THE RIDE...YOU HAVE TO LOVE THE GERMANS!!!! MY MR2 rides better than factory.SOOOOOOOO smooth, and still lowered 1.6" all the way around....HUGE IMPROVEMENT OVER Tein S Tech's. Anyone looking to buy springs, dont waste your money on any Tein's. I was going to buy some Eibach's off a friend for $50.00 but they were the Pro Kit which only lower your car 1".The Eibach Sportline's are the best they make for the MR2 and I got mine shipped to my door within 24 hours after I ordered them form Qualified Japanese Parts in LA for $177.00....Hope this helps anyone interested.
I've never really heard much good things about Tein springs, but their coilovers are another thing. If you are happy with the Eibachs, stick with em, but I recommend the Tanabe GF210 springs, got them myself. Post pics on that turbo beams in another thread, I'm sure that would generate interest. Also, ease up on the other members joking with you man, no need to go overboard with the comebacks.
Your a genious CompanyFlow for recognizing a typographical error. You win the Gold Prize, a bucket full of sh*t...enjoy... Second prize is a tampon to plug that CompanyFLOW...
For those that did not see I accidentally typed VTech, intstead of VTec...............
Kinda harsh... Especially when he was just joking with you..
I have heard good feedback on the Tanabe's, but they were more than the Eibachs, and as I run Eibach's on my BMW's (M3/850/325i) and have never gone wrong, I went with what I knew verses being stuck with 3 sets of shocks and spinrgs that did not ride well!!!! I have a set of Mugen coilovers that I use on track days, but they ride bad on the road, and my friend has a 92 MR2 NA stroker (faster than my Turbo) with Tein coilovers, and he is getting a Tokico/Eibach set up after driving mine. Thanks for all the info, and sorry companyflow....
The problem with typing messages is you can not interpret "Tone" as in tone of voice, I was also just joking, no hard feelings on either side I hope....
You have to also remember that there are other messages sent on here in PM....
