Question Thinking of Buying an MR2 MKI SC

I 'm looking into getting one.. any ideas on how this car would be in the winter? I live in Toronto and the snow is pretty bad sometimes...

Also how reliable is this car?
what are the common problems with this car?
I know rust must be an issue... i heard that when buying one "making sure that body is in good shape", is number one then the mechanical stuff..

How much oem products are there for this car?

You would'nt want a "DANCING RIDE" in the winter. These cars love to dance even on a rainy season. The rears tend to loose out even on slow speeds if you're not careful. That's why most owner only drive them during DRY season.

Also if you're a first time driver...its not really recommended. FWD cars are more forgiving in winter.

I have an MK1 myself but I never tried / want to drive it during winter or bad rainy days. I don't want ending myself in a ditch or crash into another car.

Try to go to other MR2 forums and ask about how this BABY handles SNOW....

with great winter tires they are not bad if you know how to drive in the snow. I just bought an 88 sc for the winter. If i wreck, it will be a great parts car.

Parts are very expensive for there cars so keep that in mind. (thats why i stock up on cars and parts)

Also the sc is a gas pig if you put a big pulley for more boost and drive hard. Maybe 300km on a full tank. (37 liters, but the tank hold 41 liters)

Question would it be worth it?

I can get a hold of an MR2 91' Turbo for $8000 cnd.. is that worth it?

The body has been fix from rust and brand new paint job...and has 230k on the motor...

I think the turbo is almost about ready to go soon..

how much would i be expecting to spend on maintaining and or fixing major components? (ie. turbo, tranny?) I'm guess about $5000 on top of what i would get it for?

It maybe a good deal 'coz you're only gonna worry about the engine, suspension, & other mech. stuff since the body was just repaired.

But if your going to shell out another $5K for it, I suggest save some more $$$, and try to find a RARE low mileage MR2 (below 100,000 kms.). It might cost more but less headache in the long run.

Not unless you got an MR2 which is really dirt cheap then you can spend $$$ restoring it. Anyway, its your money, your decision.

BTW, what are you planning to get? MK1 or MK2? N/A or Turbo?

Well i could get a hold of the MK2 Turbo, but costs more... I acutally like the MK2 more...'sigh' I'll have to see still, if i save up enuff $$$ for the MK2 then I'll get that, but if i not then i'm gonna settle for the MK1...
