battery light flashing?

pretty much today, when i was driving my car, the battery light and the oil light started to flash simatanously so i headed home. then half way home my check engine light came on. as soon as i turned on my street, all three lights dissapeared. when i got home i checked for any cpu codes and there were none. wtf? has anyone experienced a simular episode with there mr2's?

No, I haven't experienced that, but I think battery light flashing is for low voltage. Prolly Alternator going out. I would get it tested. i think O'Rileys ,PepBoys, Advance all do it for free.

actually, i noticed that there is an oil leakage comihg from the valve cover and its dripping into the altenator. but that still wouldnt explain the check engine light.

No, but maybe the oil is making the alternator go bad? Same thing happened to my MR2. Oil was getting in the regulator?? and shorting it out.

sure it would.

two reasons.

a bad alternator due to low ouput the ECU can't send an accurate 5v reference signal to the engine's sensors and would throw a light. since its not OBDII its usually not required that a method is used to turn off the light. fix the problem the light goes off. so your issue is intermittent.

second reason if the rectifier bridge or diode trio in the alternator go bad. it will start producing higher levels of AC voltage. ECUs can't read AC voltage and those piece are wha convert AC to DC. if they are not converting the ECU starts recieving AC voltage and can't compute so it starts acting all fucking goofy and shit.

have the alternator tested. stay away from autozone. go to somewhere where technicians are actually employed (pepboys) and have them do it. it won't be free but atleast it will be done right.
