i bought my car yesterday, i have an imported mr2, g-limited, think it is the 158bhp model but not sure, j reg, she is a lovely car to drive and is spotless,
but iv got some bits i need settled, firstly,
1- wen pulling away or slowing down if you rush into second it grinds, but if u take it easy puttin it into gear it doesn't?
2- i cannot find a rear fog lamp switch on the vehicle?
3- i tried to change my headlight bulb today which was going well until the lights decided to close on me for no reason when the headlight was hangin out, the cover closed down and when i treid to get it back up on the switch it wouldnt come up, well i managed to get the light out and put it all together but the headlamp unit itself doesnt pop up as far as the other one and when u go to turn lights off it lifts up a bit then closes.
any ideas what may have happened?
4- i have a switch that has been fitted by someone, (just an aftermarket halfords plastic switch) it lights up when u switch it on but only if the headlights are on?
5- and finally...... the front fog switch is like a rocker switch, it has on written in the middle, but at the top it has jap writtin n at the bottom nothin but the fogs come on when pressed up or down, does anyone know what switchin it upwards is supposed to do and what downwards is supposed to do?
i know this sounds alot but it is just silly little things that i cannot work out!!
1. MR2s have notoriously bas transmission syncros. Crunching second is, unforutnately, rather common.
2. Never heard of stock rear-fogs on the MR2 - so no clue.
3. Inside the front-trunk (frunk), there is a read knob behind the lights. Turn that knob to adjust the hieght. If that does not work, I suspect you damaged something.
4. If someone added it, no way I know what it is
5. I suspect that the previous owner altered the fog light wiring which might be why you have that other toggle switch. People often modify them so you can drive with just the fogs on. That is probably what is going on between your two switches (just guessing).
thanks for that, i have not got a clue on these things!!!
the headlight adjuster thing, is that the knob behind the light that says turn clockwise, will that alter the amount that the actual headlight flips up? knowing me heavy handed that i am i prob broke it!!!
so the second gear crunch is not too much to worry about i guess?
also u may know where do i find the engine number on this car i spent numerous occasions today looking for it?
the headlight sits up more than it did before now!!!
i found the vin number starting sw20 and the engine is 3sge but someone wants the engine number for a part i have given them the sw20 number and they are sayin that is the chassis number n need engine number!!!
Chassis number is thesame as the VIN (vehicle identification number).
If are outside the car, looking through the windshield on the left-side of the car,
you will see the VIN # on the dash close to the window.
If your head light is sitting up, then try to adjust it with the red knob I described.
The engine code is: 3SGE
There will be VIN # on the engine, but that is the same as it is on the dash as I described. It will also be on the sticker inside the door jams and under he hood and trunk lids.
The red knob is inside the front trunk, behind the headlights. It's just a mechanical knob to adjust the headlight level. It's also an emergency way to raise the lights if the electric motor fails to raise them up.
i turned that red knob it brings headlight back up but as soon as u put them down n back up it goes back to lifting up a bit before going down!!
looks like the bar that it attaches with the strut like piece on headlight needs repositionin think it may have pushed it down so the strut doesnt lift light high enough!!
i think only in the UK its req'd to have rear fog lights...most would have to be aftermarket installs unless they were specifically designed for European models....the fog light switch inside the car controls whether the fogs are on WHEN your headlights are up....then you can leave them on or off....but they will always be on as daytime running lights like in all canadian model cars...
up should be on when your headlights are on...just look and see for yourself..turn on your lights and flick the switch and see which way turns the fogs on or off...i'm not sure about the rear fog light req'ment...not familiar with UK MOT regulations....

with the fogs when the headlights are on if i flick switch up they come on flick it back to middle they are off n if i flick it down they come on!!
