coolant Q?

my manual says not to use alcohol based coolant but i think that is what i used when i first rebuilt my motor. why is the alcohol based one bad? why does the manufacture call for the glycol based coolant and does it matter which kind is used?

and by the way... when i first start my car in the morning, the temp gauge begins to climb within the first minute of warming up. is that normal? my integra and ford escape both take way longer to warm up. whats the deal?

yes it does matter. alcohol is corrosive if it dwells too long.

the gylcol is a lubricant and contains anti-corrosive attitives.

my MR2 warms up fast too. consider the rear engine design w/ your front mounted radiator as your answer.

that makes sence about the warming up quick thing... i'm really concerned about having all the air out of the system though. recently i had to take off the throttle body so i know i introduced air into the system, but i'v been bleeding it out since. if there is air in the system, will it over heat automatically or will i be driving for a while and the temp will jump up out'a no where?

how high does the temp gauge get? if it is normal after warmup, go for a short rip, boost it a little, and watch the temp gauge carefully. It shouldn't go much over half way.

I don't see how taking off the throttlebody introduces air into your cooling system....?

it doesn't go any further than half way but i have never drove it over fifteen minutes or on the highway or anything. its not registered so i really dont wanna risk it.

i introduced air into the system when i took off the trottle body cause the water lines that runs to the ICS or whatever, i had to take off.

im only worrying about it cause i'v never driven an mr2 or a turbo'd sports car for that matter and i just wanna make sure everything is all good.

Hhhmmm? I've had to take off my throttle body several times for different reasons. I didn't have to remove ANY water lines. Anyway, drive the car around your neighborhood-staying close to home- for an hour. If it's gonna overheat, it'll do it then. But it doesn't sound like you have a overheating problem. This way IF it does overheat, you won't have far to get home. Maybe carry some extra distilled water-just in case..

that does sound a little fast for the warmup. i never boost for the first couple of minutes and my temp guage stays pegged at the bottom. if i do immed boost then it brings it up. i would even go as far as to say it warms up slower than my other cars.
