5SFE Stutter

I have a 5sfe and i just replaced the valve gasket, distributor cap and rotor, all new wires and spark plugs. The reason why i replaced all this is because oil was leaking up there and i was blowing a 4300 Hydro Carbins on the Inspection machine when the legal requirement for Mass is 220. So ya i way over the state requirement to get an inspection sticker, but after i changes all that stuff above i brought my hydro carbins down to 300. So i put high octane in it to clean it out to little more. And then thats when my stutter started to happen, after i have done all that good stuff listed above. I first noticed it when i was on the highway the day after i had done the tune up to my car and it was going 70 at a good 3000RPM, and my car stutterd for a secound like so brief i didnt think anything of it. That was on 5/3/07, today 5/7/07 i was driving home from work and my car stutterd agian and agian like 3 or 4 times. But every time it was for like 1 secound and then back to normal for like a mile then would do it agian. But what i noticed when it stutterd my engine light would come on and then turn off when the stutter whas over with. What could it be? Could it be my timing belt or could it be more?

stay w/ 87 octane... and see if it fixes the problem

when this happened did all the lights flicker and it felt like a stall and loss of power? this similar thing happened to my 88 corolla gts. it shuddered and then sputtered all the way home. it died a few times too. turned out to be my alternator. somehow it had gotten wet and messed it all up. i went through two batteries trying to figure it out and wound up selling it becuase it was getting old anywyas.

Recheck all the plug wires. Maybe one is not making a good connection. Recheck plug gaps too. If it was running OK before you did all this, I suspect something in the tune up proceedure is slightly out of whack.

Ive been "told" that you should not mix octanes, maybe the fuel mixture causing diff burn in diff cylinders??
i always just figured the fuel would mix, though i never try it :b if anyone could confirm or disprove this i would be appreciative as well

I have mixed fuels before. .. Not harmful as long as the octane rating is not below engine requirement.

The 5sfe motor has a harder time running on 93 oct because the mtoro really dosnt burn hot enough to burn all of the oxygen strands that are in the fuel. Is the motor hesitating or reacting a little slower then it normalloy does when you hit the gas? if i does then your motor is pinging and that could be as well where your stutter is coming from which it just isnt burning all of the fuel/ oxygen strands under detination. if going to back to the 87 or even 89oct to help keep your hydro carbins down then i would take the cap and rotor off reinstall to double check everything and double check all of your wires and plugs and make sure your plugwires are gaped right. good luck

i have mixed octanes before. i used to only pump 89 in my cressida. now i pump 87. when i changed there was no problem. i dont think that would be a problem at all unless you change from unleaded to dielsel. which couldnt happen. but i need to run a tank of 91 now to make my car feel special.

mixing or switching the octanes isnt the problem between 89 and 87 octane there is such a minimal difference. the 93 octane however does require a motor that doesnt burn at normal temps ie turbo motors or high performance cars such as porsche ferrari and so on. running a tank of premium through your car isnt realyl going to help out a whole lot more to clean it out. you are better off going to a suto parts store and getting a bottle of injector cleaner or something its will work better and have a stronger effect then a tank of premium not to mention the price difference.
