1991 MR2 questions

Ok I'm new to this forum and also new to mr2's. My question is I have found a 1991 MR2 turbo with like 150k on it with a blown tranny. First question is how much would I be looking to spend on a new tranny and where could I find one? And for my second question how much is something like this worth and how much should I offer him? The body is a little rough as the paint is chipping/fadding? Thanks for all the help Chris

A nice MR2 will go for well above blue book.

A nice one.

I wouldn't give him more than 2.5k for it max. and even in that department i'd be expecting a rebuilt motor. a trans ain't cheap. you won't find a E153 or S54 if you had to settle in a junkyard. you could check ebay and get lucky but your best bet for reliable w/ warranty is start calling trans shops. and a "rough" body sucks. A duece is a beautiful car. almost makes you not want to drive it when its all beat up. and body work is not cheap by any means.

You can find a tranny for $400-800 depending on where you look. Often the best bet is to buy a jdm gen II longblock and tranny. You'll find them for $1200-$1800. Check out www.mr2oc.com

I was thinking no more than 2k for it. if the motor runs well . Do you know if the motor runs? If the tranny is blown -why? I would be real concerned about the engine if it has a blown trans.. either way, you're gonna be pumping out the bucks just to get her street worthy. I would be very dubious about the whole deal..
