Ok, took the mr2 to the dealership. They replaced the timing belt, water pump and pulleys for 350$ which isn't bad. They called me later and told me that one cv boots is cracked and the other is about too. 700 hundred dollars to replace. Looked online for parts, 16 dollars for boots. So I assume labor is a bitch. Unless you have to drop the motor and trans to replace them, no way I am paying 700 dollars. Has anyone done themselves and can verify that or am I getting ripped off because I got a deal on the rest?

thanks.

if you don't need to take the engine/trans out then its just a matter of getting the axles out and taking the boots off and replacing the grease and boots. you will need a crimping tool to put the clamp back on though. I believe they used to make replacement boot kits that don't even require you to take out the axles, but I dont know very much about them. if your cv boot is already cracked, then if any dust has gotten in then you might need a new axle/cv joint. that could be why its so expensive.

That proceedure is alot of work. $700.00 is high. You can find a better deal, but it will still be alot. So either do it yourself and cough up the bucks.
They previous work they did for you was done at a decent price. So maybe they're honest.
Have you looked at the boots yourself to confirm they need replacing?
