What are your thoughts on one of these things? I've seen alot of people use them, but someone around here was talking about how their engine locked up after putting one on. He had the right amount of oil in the pan, but could it be that his oil pump couldnt handle pumping that extra few inches? To my knowledge the oil pump has never been changed, same with water pump and alot of his other stuff on his car. The thing ran great for 250k, until a week after putting it on, thanksgiving eve, the engine locked up.
I'm skeptical about a relocation kit after finding out about this, but I'm wondering how one will do on a newly built engine, like the 3sgte's. Cause I dont want to have a problem with the location of the filter and the custom downpipe I have to get made for my camry.
If you go this route get a system with a by-pass valve. If for some reason the remote filter system resistance becomes too great, the oil will by-pass the system.
Well since we don't know where the location of the relocated oil unit is.... its hard to say. But not changing the oil/water pump is not a good idea. The oil should have no problem with pressure unless its mounted all the way up. Just add extra oil until it fills up the line.
we put one on my friends 325i, and an oil cooler. (with a turbo kit) it took a lot more oil, but we had no problems. I guess make sure its not in a place that would be bad for hight, access, heat etc and make sure its hooked up nice and tight with enough oil. A bypass valve couldn't hurt either

personal pref? maybe on some cars easier access? one does not NEED said product so i would guess one of those reasons as it does not give any performance upgrade.
we used a kit on my friends car cuz most of the stuff is custom done. only supercharger kits avail for bimmers. so the kit came in pretty handy plus they are cheap. thats always a plus lol

that's basically it. I have to get a custom downpipe made, which may or may not get in the way of the filter. So, all I'm just doing is finding out before hand. You know?
i would take a pass on it. i seem to come across a lot of problems with them on the miata boards. the oem location is a major PITA so people switch them. i have seen at least one person blow their engine. for me thats enough to scare me away.
you shouldnt have a problem with one on a 3sgte with a downpipe. i have both and i just reach right down and take it off. prob the easiest car i have ever owned.

yeah, I'm hoping I wont have a problem with the downpipe getting in the way cause I have to have it swing around because of that front motor mount on the camry.
