2nd Generation Alignments

I need an alignment. But i herd that there are different types of alignments for different types of cars, my friend has a miada and is getting a custom alignment specifically for his car .....Is there a special type of alignment for the MR2 2nd gen that i should get?

If you're talking about daily street driving, then get the standard 4 wheel alignment. I would only alter OEM alignment specs if you run autocross or some type of track race and you have modified suspension geometry.

RPM meter not working correctly

My Rpm meter seems not to be working correctly..... I mean it moves, but it doesn't give me the right Rpm measurement. I think its like 2,000 Rpm's off or something like that. Do you guys have any ideas of what it could be?

what year is your car? because the have a little plastic wheel that sits in the tranny that reads your rpms. That wheel could be cracked or broke and that is why it isnt reading correctly. The other things is too if you go over 17" rims on the mr2s they tend to break these plastic wheels a little bit more as well

The speed feels correct its just that the rpm doesn't feel like its matching how hard im push it... i sometimes feel that if i push a little more i could go over redlining the it. My car is a 2 gen 1993 MR2

that could be it to that the clutch is slipping. Do you know when the last time that the clutch was replaced or how many miles are on it? try and see how soon the car actually redlines it isnt going to hurt thee car if you do it a couple of times (while you are driving) if it gets there way to fast its probably that the clutch is glazed over or just worn out and you need a new one.

Rpm's would be high. Speed would be less than it should be. You may "smell" the disc slipping.
If you have the Turbo model at 3000 rpm's in 5th gear you should be going about 62-64mph. If that is correct when you are going that fast, then it may be the tachometer, or what duece93t refered to.

Yeah you should be able to smell the clutch slipping if that is what it is. Really the only other thing you would have a "problem" with is engage and disengage the clutch. like the car has a hard time catching the gear or if you sift fast and engage the clutch fast it will be like you totally missed the gear. but like MR2Bad said you should be able to smell it if it is slipping that bad and if not drive it and shift it fast and see if the clutch grabs or not you will be able to feel if it does. or it will hesitate and then grab. That would just be a sign that the clutch is old and needs to be changed. Good luck!!

negative.

the little wheel senses vehicle speed... Miles Per Hour

He has incorrect RPM.... Revolutions Per Minute...

which the pickup for that is in your D-Cap...

Also if you have an aftermarket tach.... and its that, that doesn't work... you need to make sure you have it wired to the neg. side of the coil... not positive... cause that will give inaccurate readings too.

and to the original post...

i have a sport tuned alignment... slight positive on the toe... little less in the rear... few degrees of camber and caster.

i paid a shop 100.00 to do it.

makes a nice different but wears tires out more

i'd say its noticeable... its a combination of suspension work you can do to make your car the most effective. i'd say its an effective part of it. but i have adjustable struts... strut tower braces, control arm brace... sways w/ adjustable end links... and everytime you mod the suspension you need to re-do the alignment... so i'd do it last. a sport alignment on a stock suspension would prolly be the same as adding an intake to a stock motor. its a mod... not much... but a part of the big picture
