Bypass exhaust laws at the flip of a switch!

For a good while I have been thinking of ways of eliminating the cat without having to worry about smog or being pulled over and the like. Well today I was scouring the HT forums like a noob and saw a pretty neat idea. This guy welded an extension of pipe just before the cat and used an old honda throttle body as a block off. He opens it up as he pleases and it seems like a great idea, even better on a turbo car. I would imagine that you wouldnt even need to buy an exhaust because you would be running it open. Heres a link to the pictures:http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2036096

What do you think?

I think it's a cool idea.
The only thing on a MR2 it will be easy to spot under the car. It would have to come after the DP and would be right under the engine. You would only have to bend down and look.
I'm still gonna kick the idea around in my head and see what I can come up with for my '91T

OK liar, number one a noob does not search or browse the forums they just go ahead and make threads without thinking. And that does look like a good idea.

Who is a liar and why are you giving me the definition of a noob? I wouldnt mind running a setup like that except for the fact that Ive been reading that open header "burns" valve or something of that nature. Can that be confirmed? Im also thinking of a way that you would be able to keep the noise down but havent really gotten any good ideas.

i also think it would be fairly noticeable due to the engine layout. also i have heard open downpipes and they are too loud for my own taste.

Dragsters run uncapped headers...there is still "some" backpressure..
I have heard this too, but have yet to see any evidence prooving it.

Nice.....I see that my sarcasm did not show clearly, perhaps I need to add smileys like so . And yes noobs do not like to search and CompanyFlow did search which was surprising to me. Don't trust me? Check out the other forums and the threads being created. Why do you think I have a pic of a spoon in my sig? To spoonfeed people of course

They make electric cutouts... I doubt a throttle body will seal well for very long.

Yes it is true that over time the open headers burn out the valves or you can even float and drop a valve over time because of the lack of backpressure on the motor. Top fuel dragsters dont have to worry about this because after every 1/4mile run they do they rip the motor down and rebuild it with all brans new things anyways. Its a great idea to use for a track day or something but i wouldnt run it that way all the time there isnt enough piping on the 2's exhaust to put it and get enough back pressure to run it everyday. where as my buddies Camaro has enough piping to put the cut out down a little ways and gets enough pressure to not worry not only that its is loud as crap i had to run my car over the the exhaust shop when i was getting mine done and all i had was the cat on it and i tell you it got annoying really fast!!

As long as the header is on, you will have back pressure. As for the throttle body idea, I dont see how that mechanism is any different from a throttle body. It looks exactly like one.
