Need help with buying my first mr2

Hey guys.

Ok, well i am new to the mr2 scene, and to Mid engine cars. Anyways i was looking for a car to buy as a project car or just a car to have a little fun with. When i was searching on the net i couldnt really find anything that was up my ally. So i was talking to my friend Who owns a 91 n/a Widebody mr2 and a 1999 bmw m3 (he just trew a rod in the m3) and he says he would sell me the mr2 for 4 grand. So i started talking to him and i found out that he swapped the original n/a engine to a JDM turbo engine. He also Put a new transmission and new rear exles in it. He also said it wasnt running right now because it needs part of the wiring harness for it to be able to start. (it will turn over, and he says i can get the part for 300$ at a shop next to his house) he also told me it should make about 300hp and it has a turbo from a 2jz Supra in it. I dont know much, but it SOUNDS to me like a good deal.

So is this a good deal?
What are somethings i should ask him?
What should i look for?

thank you, Cody

there are a lot of other factors to consider to be able to tell you if thats a good price or not. plus with it not running, something else besides the plug could be wrong. and if its the plug I'm thinking of, Toyota charges 1100 bucks for the harness. soooooo any more info would help.
ie. miles? driven hard? properly maintained? any body damage? frame damage? everything works? interior not ripped up? etc.etc.

also, not sure about the diff the turbo makes, but stock swap will put you around 170 to the ground. there would have to be some other mods as well when you push 300, other parts of the car need to be upgraded as well to be safe/reliable, or to even run at all. things like fuel pump and injectors, i know the stock system chokes somewhere around the 300 mark.

and when changing to the diff engine, the transmission and axels also have to be replaced to complete the swap. the na uses a long and short piece axel design, the turbo uses a three piece system, one center, then two end pieces of equal length.

lets just say i went over there... the interior was all torn out... and the body looked like crap.... he did put new axles and a transmission in it... i would need 2g min for the body to look 100% again. (then it would look VERY nice) but ya... 4g is a lil too much for it.. it needs a lot of work. ty for ur input (oh the motor had 42k on it.)

what about the body? other parts to wear out over time? the brakes, fuel pump ect cuz the body is 16+ years old now. but yeah, if the interior is torn out, and you need 2k of body work ... AND its not even running. hate to have bad news but this car is deff. not worth 4k.

i would say 5-6k is a good price for a good body/interior turbo. maybe more if things are pristine show room quality. so start from there and deduct for everything. maybe ask him to get the part to get it running, then make him an offer, cuz if its not just the plug, it could get costly very quickly.
