eBay motors, find one from a reputable company with lots of good feed back. they cost around 2300 for engine/transmission. After getting engine, tranny, harness, ecu, MAF sensor, intercooler, shipping etc your gonna be close to 3k. Just make sure you get everything you need when you order.

As far as fitting and mounting and stuff, im not very knowledgeable on the gen1. And not sure about how it will mount to your rear axle, i had to change mine on my gen2 when going from N/A to the 3s. Good luck!

Gen1 S.i.t.

thanks for the info..1500 seems cheaper than i thought for a 3sgte plus transmission etc right now (not including shipping)....it'll cost me the same to install at least, but it will be worth it. ive had my 88 for 8 years now and its run great, but what do you expect from toyota, they are one of the few companies that seem to take pride in their work. S.I.T. much ! Im looking to get to about 200-250 on my mk1 with that. ive been told i could do just fine with gas shocks (for the money) as compared to coilovers (which still seem too much) It seems like more money than i want to spend to replace the rear axle for the 3sgte than to just go with a newer version of my stock 4a-ge (or whatever its called..the 1.6 n/a) if i could bore that one out and do some improvements with that motor without the added expense of a new rear axle etc i would go for it, but ultimately i dont really want to spend more than 3-4 grand. really its just too fun to give up. toyota rocks!

1500? not sure where you found that number, engine alone costs more than that. lol anyway not sure on all the specifics, but i dont see why you could not just build your motor, or swap it with the supercharged one(not sure if its the same motor or not. noob on gen1) that motor stock put out like 160. im sure with some simple mods and a smaller pully you could bump it up to 200 to the ground with no prob. then there is all the crazy math on fuel pumps, and clutch and injectors etc etc. best way is to find someone who has done it and ask them. for example, now i could give someone a step by step on how to swap a 3s into a gen2 :p
this is a great comunity for the most part and im sure someone here can point you in the right direction. I would say building on the supercharged platform would be your best bet, since they came from the factory that way. dont have to worry about space, axles, and lots of custom mounts and work.

Gen1 blah blah

yeah, the supercharged is a good call i think...i know 1500 seems a bit on the cheap side but thats what it said (ebay) thats where the bids were so far anyway, they did have a buy it now option at 1500 though including transmission and a laundry list of parts. too good to be true really. thanks for the info

ohhh

oh the reason it was that cheap was because it was an auction price..so if you "win" you get it for that...i guess
