I have owned 3 MR2's . A '92 N/A, '91 Turbo and 2001 Spyder. I still have the last 2. Love'm. Dependable, economical, handle great and a good power to weight ratio.
If you're looking for a nice looking car that gets good mileage and plan to leave it stock, go with the 1st or 2nd gen N/A. or get the Spyder (gen 3).
If you plan on modifying, go with the 2nd gen. turbo model. There is alot of aftermarket support there.

2nd gens were imported to the US '91 -'95.
N/A = 135-140HP depending on the year.
Turbo=200hp and can be easily modified to 280hp with some simple bolt ons and tuning.
If you're thinking about getting the turbo down the road, I recommend you get it to start with. People do swaps, but it so much easier to just get the turbo to start with.

He states 100K on the "new" engine. Not bad if it's true. The price is good, but i would be worried about the transmission and gauges from what he said. Unless you have the time ,money and skill to work on it (or pay to have the work done) I would be leary of this one. But it's hard to tell from here. No doubt it will need some work. But then most used cars do.
Also, you may have a problem finding JDM parts for the engine later.

im only looking to spend about 2500 to 3500. just started college so money is scarce for me. i would really love to have a turbo one but might have to settle for n/a one. would it still be worth it?

i love driving, i love driving fast, i use to own a civic hatchback, eg, sold it cuz i needed money. i drive a 89 yota 4x4 v6 and i trave alot and gas sux on it.
if the car is fun to drive and is good bang for the buck then i would gladly settle for n/a.... for right now.

The question is - is it worth it to you ? At best, if you found a '95, it would be 12 years old....
