Gen1 88 SC Orphan Wire

My 88 SC (41,000 actual miles) finally croaked its alternator last week. Got the rebuilt from the dealer, figured out how to replace it...works just fine.

Did the job over a weekend, old one out Saturday, new one in on Sunday. Well you've heard the expression "I've slept since then"? I now have a wht/blk wire originating from the same point on the harness as the charging terminal wire that I forget if I disconnected or not. It's a little strange since it has single pin black connectors on each end of about a 10 inch long wire. One end coming right out of the harness. The other end has the metal scored slightly so I can tell it was plugged in to something. The exposed wire is covered with a ribbed plastic loom material, indicating that it might go in to an area around the exhaust manifold or belt area. It I get a low voltage output from it when the ignition switch is "on" (I only have a test light, not a volt meter).

I'm pulling my hair out between reading the bgb and searching other forums. I'm noticing that there are different configurations relating to options like ac and sc (I have both). Even though the car seems to run fine, I'm afraid to take out on the road in case it turns out to be something critical. Does anyone have a good memory or maybe just happen to have their 88 SC up on a lift and can take a peek and see where this wire terminates? I hate to have to take it in to the dealer after getting this far.
